About Me

CURRENT MISSION

make sustainable food happen with a wonderful group

ABOUT ME

Our 110 acre farm is organic "by default" and is in transition to certification & growing forages in our absence. Now living in the city of Philadelphia where carpentry helps pay the bills.
Making sculptures is a big deal for me - esp. those sculptures made for BAKING and sculptures to work & keep warm in. This is fascinating -see mxsteve at:
http://www.flyingconcrete.com/
I like sustainable and cob housing, organic permaculture farms. Hope to spend more winters practicing pattern languages.
Our 2nd farm, leased near Pittsburgh, grows plenty of garlic and grains and some honeybees. NOFA member.

PHILOSOPHY

better ideas are continually being created and acted upon. Today, if you're one in a million - there's six plus thousand just like you. They're ( we're ) all able to move all the best stuff along collaboratively and cooperatively. ah hah & why not? It all changes while we live it out and improves all our chances.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

CS meetup in Phila., intro to Philly and help w learning bike routes there, free food found and distributed with Food Not Bombs. We three all help to HOST cs-ers. Iwanks, Kim &I
NOW, in Phila, our work/living/meeting space can offer 3 couches, a hammock or 2, and two large mattresses. Relative simple comfort and hospitality. Kitchen, wifi, whiteboard and projector. Backyard BBQ.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

my good friend Patricia & I did a CS in Alexandria and Cairo, Eqypt. years ago. wonderful introduction to CS
We have hosted a few times here and attend some CS events locally incl. couch-a-delphia.

Interests

good ideas about ways to live without fossil fuels or planet destroying waste.
RSMH rocket stove mass heaters ( go ahead & Google it )

In our northern latitudes: winter hoop houses ( now 2 more ) which are biomass heated, learning agroforestry through Jean Pain's examples: of compost, etc:

Sweet dream come true.
Gardens of fragrance, food and fiber. Greens growing into winter under hoops ( 2 now so far ), growing seed, raising bees.

Music, Movies, and Books

Henry David Thoreau, Ivan Illich, Hassan Fathy, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Paoli Lugari of Gaviotas ( a beautiful person really ),

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

helped build a desert seaside house in MX. that was a good ONE & still is being occupied. Amazing double rainbows viewed while driving through South Dakota storms. &Wow ! Winter wheat! We can eat! It's amazing to grow stuff like good food.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love those building designs that are more beautiful for using just a small amt or NO concrete at all. LESS concrete means cob, ear aboutth, pise, and all those ways of past thousands of years of our experience here - and are so suitable and desirable today.
Build, learn and enjoy! Let's build more backyard bamboo yurts or practice earth sculpture pleasure domes. Please join with others good earth building.
