About Me

CURRENT MISSION

After one year of travelling in Latin America, a bit more than a year in Buenos Aires, half a year in Medellin, 4 months in Rio de Janeiro and again 6 months in Medellin, a few months in beautiful Kyiv .. time for a new experience : Bangkok !

ABOUT ME

I am born 34 years ago in Leuven, Belgium.
Leuven is in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium and my mother is "Flemish". But I lived all my life in the French part of Belgium.
I lived/studied in different places in Belgium: Walhain (all childhood), Namur, Louvain-La-Neuve and Leuven.

My father was a pilot so I had the chance to travel a bit when younger.
I have been to Japan, the States, Burundi, Tunisia, Thailand... to name the few places outside Europe. From all those travels, I learned to love discovering other cultures, be open-minded, ...

I studied Marketing in a fantastic Belgian University City: Louvain-La-Neuve. Went Erasmus for 5 months in North North of Poland, Gdansk.

After I finished my studies, took some time off then went to live and work almost 3 years in Malta. Tried to save some money and thus could start a 1 year trip all over North, Central and South America from October 2013 to September 2014.
Then I lived in and worked for a local company @ Buenos Aires until October 2015...
Then.. started to work on my own, only through Internet, which means being able to live wherever I want in the world, as long as I can stay with the Vacations-Visa status though. I have lived half a year in Medellin, Colombia, then 4 months in amazing Rio de Janeiro and now.. back in Medellin, maybe to settle down forever :).

PHILOSOPHY

- Don't worry, be happy
- Money doesn't matter so much, happiness does matter much more.
- If you believe everything goes wrong, remember it could always be worse.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I had the chance to try for the first time Couchsurfing in summer 2010 in Bilbao and in Prague. AMAZING experiences in both cases. That was the start to a lot of nice adventures! I hosted around 20 people when living in Malta to "give back" to the community and used the services a lot while traveling in North America and South America (especially in Brazil!)
When I was living in Argentina / Brazil, I couldn't host someone due to a too small / shared apartment. But here in Medellin, I have more space. And I now want to give a bit back to the community. I am VERY selective regarding the demands I am receiving though. Pure / Copy paste or super small messages won't work for me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been couchsurfing for 4 days in both Bilbao and Prague during the summer 2010 and these were my first CS experiences.
While living in Malta, I hosted around 20 people, with the aim to "give back to the community" all the help and fun I had while couchsurfing myself.
Apart from Bilbao and Prague, I also couchsurfed in Gozo, Istanbul, Bologna, Trapani and Cordoba while still living in Malta.
In my "America's" trip I surfed a lot of places especially in 2/3 countries: Brasil, USA, Uruguay, Paraguay, ...

Music, Movies, and Books

Too much movies :) But a few: Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, No Man's Land, Pulp Fiction, Cidade de Deus, Requiem for a Dream, The Usual Suspects, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo, 12 Angry Men, The Pianist, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Letters from Iwo Jima, Life of Brian, etc.

I am very eclectic when it comes to music. I can be listening one day to Post-rock, another day to Dubstep, then Minimal Techno, then Indie, then Classical music, etc. etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Alhambra is the last "Most amazing" human built thing I have seen.
But traveling 12 months in the "America's" is for sure the most amazing thing I have ever done. Including going to all games of Belgium in the Brazilian world cup...what an experience! Have also been in 2016 Olympic Games.

Teach, Learn, Share

- I am interested in Geo-politics, geo-economics, etc. Did not study in that sector because I HATE mathematics, but it's "my thing". I studied History for 2 years (but stopped) and have a love for geography/other culture stuff too.
- I played too much "Football Manager", so, whatever the country you will come from, we can have a chat about your football league/team from second division, etc. :p
- I of course can have speak about my studies, Marketing.. although I am not the biggest fan of this. I mean.. working all my life to make more money for some shareholders I will never know is NOT my biggest objective in life.
- And well... I will always be happy to share my experience about every countries I had the chance to visit/live in my life!

What I Can Share with Hosts

- All the advices possible and imaginable regarding traveling in Latin America. And what to do/see in Buenos Aires. Or Rio de Janeiro. Or, obviously, Medellin.
- A roof, which is always nice :).
- Life experiences, which is always nice and interesting.
- A bit of Spanish, English or French lessons :)
