About Me

i just moved to columbia, south carolina which is a very cool city that doesn't get enough credit. i relocated here from savannah (another great town) where i also worked at the art museum. making the transition to working full-time has been tough but getting to do what i love makes it a little easier to give up the travel time.
before i started working i was in india conducting research for 10 months (and i miss it every day). and before that i was getting my masters in richmond, va. and a few years earlier i spent several months traveling and teaching english in france where i discovered couchsurfing and had a blast.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

couchsurfing is a great way to meet fascinating people and to get to know a city like a local would. it's a great concept and something we should all promote.

Interests

traveling (clearly), art, languages, museums, flea markets, foreign/indie films, baseball, leisurely bike rides, taking pictures, used book stores, bhangra, hindi songs/movies, pretty much everything indian, color, tiles.

Music, Movies, and Books

movies.. classics, indie flicks, foreign films and documentaries.
books.. mostly novels. murakami, vonnegut, twain, wilde to name a few biggies.
music.. anything with a beat i can dance to (favorites are bhangra, bollywood, and reggaeton); internationally i love hindi music, and enjoy turkish and arabic music too. as far as english music.. also pretty eclectic, from charlie parker to the pixies to johnny cash to phoenix to the kingston trio.. just to name a few

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

floated in the dead sea.. played holi in delhi.. spent the night in the sahara.. experienced semana santa in sevilla.. rode an elephant bareback through a river in laos.. flown in a hot air balloon over sedona.. hiked through river canyons in jordan.. smoked hookah on rooftops in tunisia at sunset.. kayaked through halong bay..

Teach, Learn, Share

i take pictures, make earrings, can throw a pretty good spiral (talking american football here). my french is pretty decent and i speak a little spanish and even less hindi.
i'd like to improve my (very rudimentary) hindi and arabic (even rustier), learn to juggle, tap dance, or most anything you can teach me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

well swapping travel stories is the best thing to share, in my book. i can lend a hand with cooking and i love to play games. i make a pretty decent cup of chai, if i do say so myself. i'm also told i'm great to have around at an art museum. if you're looking for that sort of thing.
