About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Follow the Walksigns

ABOUT ME

I am a confusion of passions. There is so much in this life and world that I wish to master and experience, and also there is insufficient time and energy to accomplish them all. I do my best to live as well as I can. Basics about me is that I am an ex-attempting professional soccer player who has since come to the realization that my love for the sport is not fully supported by my personality. Therefore I still maintain a fervid passion for GOOD soccer, but am now doing my best to take part in other interests and opportunities such as dance and music. Starting slow, but building up steam I think. I think I can I think I can.

What brings a smile to my face: good soccer (football to the rest of the world), waterfalls, swimming, dancing, nature, hiking, singing, music, games, adventures, unexpected beauty, and hopefully a multitude of things yet discovered.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a firm believe in following the walksigns. Think of walking through a big city (or a small one) with no particular place to go...at every street you encounter two "walksigns", usually one a little green man and the other a little red man. You must take the green, regardless of your original path. If you do this with an open and curious mind, looking about your world as a child would in a new environment, then you will ALWAYS find something worth your time. It could be as big as a new job or new love, and as small as the best strawberry milkshake you've ever experienced. And as this theory is in a city, it also is in life. I am constantly striving to have courage to say "yes" to those little green men presenting themselves in my life. The universe is trying to show you something about life, you need only let it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been couchsurfing ever since I first learned of it during my first European adventure. It is a perfect venue for me because I usually travel alone and it is an awesome way to meet people in each city I visit. Learning about other cultures while being social is much needed in any traveling adventure for me. I feel Couchsurfing does an amazing job of putting cultures together and promoting worldwide understanding.

I believe it was Mark Twain who stated: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I met Rui through his work when I was waiting for my soccer plans to come to fruition, but after they fell through I decided to take him up on his offer of crashing on his couch for a little while. It was amazing. Great friends, great times, great memories.

Since then I have couchsurfed all across the Iberian Pennisula, had meet ups with interesting characters in Thailand, and used the vast knowledge of the CS community to help with my travels in all regions I have traveled.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love almost all music (not into heavy metal tho). I especially love trad, celtic based, and old time stuff, probably due mostly to growing up in a very folk music centered culture...that and I'm trying to learn to play the mandolin and love me a good jam session!

For books I enjoy fantasy and non-fiction. Some of my favorites are Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, A Song of Fire and Ice series, Mithermages books, The Freedom's Landing books, The Long Walk, Things Fall Apart...

And for movies, I love enjoy watching almost everything. Even if it's a horrible movie, I will finish watching it and then feel ridiculous about the time that I just wasted watching such a sorry excuse for popular media. But yeah, movies are great!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Autumn in Maine...so beautiful.

Ridden on the top of an SUV up into the foothills of the Himilayas, with the most amazing expanse of stars shining above me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm, well my only skill in this world has ended up being Goalkeeping in soccer. Besides that I'm pretty useless haha. OH! And I picked up a few "two-stepping" moves while living in Texas, so if you want to learn how to Texas two step, I'm your Couchsurfer! (although I'm sure there's a bunch of you out there much better than me at it haha)

I love to learn, anything I can usually. Music, culture, science, weird factoids, weird talents etc. Lately I've been really getting into folk music, so teach me your favorite tune!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Stories, french toast, several Irish/Scottish/Scandi tunes, a few folk songs, and an open mind.
