About Me

I'm finishing my law degrees at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. Before law school, I was a professional classical pianist and organist. After graduating from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music - Middle/High School Divisions, I moved to the United States to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in classical piano, which included a year of independent research in the Netherlands on keyboard music of the 17th-19th centuries.

Perhaps because I was born in a small town of some 10,000 people in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan, I always embrace, welcome, and often seek new challenges. I have moved around quite a bit: from my hometown to Chengdu, then Bowling Green (OH), Chicago, Amsterdam, Boston, and now Montreal. For me, the question "where is home?" is never quite settled.

In Montreal, I spend most of my time on campus. However, visiting Montreal's many enchanting cafés—some quaint, others sleek—affords me opportunities to enjoy many things I deeply care about: public transit, books, coffee, and face-to-face interactions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I couchsurfed for the first time in Philadelphia and then few days later in Washington D.C in 2009 (whoa, long time ago), and absolutely enjoyed the experience. I was able to host a few people when I lived in Chicago. I hope to start hosting again when I have space in my apartment.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am a big fan of classical music. Some of my favorite composers include J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, and Sergei Prokofiev.

I rarely watch TV shows; however, I find the Netflix series *Dark* utterly captivating and compelling.

Favorite books: Tess of the d'Urbervilles (Thomas Hardy), The Three-Body Problem (Liu Cixin), Death in Venice (Thomas Mann)

Favorite movies: Apocalypse Now, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Farewell My Concubine, Memento

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- I wouldn't say it was amazing, but I experienced an 8.0 magnitude earthquake.
- Oh wait, I was with the Danish royal family on Christmas Eve at the Aarhus Cathedral in 2016.
- Once I swam to and from Pontikonisi, a tiny Greek island that inspired Arnold Böcklin's famous painting "Isle of the Dead", which inspired Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead, Op. 29.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm working on my French and cooking skills!

I can teach piano and Chinese language, but I'm an avid learner and always eager to experience new things.
