About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Seeking possible sites in pleasant climates for retirement. Or maybe I will spend the rest of my life travelling...

ABOUT ME

My eyes are looking straight ahead.
My ears are listening straight ahead.
My mind follows, leads, swims, flies.

PHILOSOPHY

Seek and you shall find
Solutions to life's puzzles, peace of mind
But if life is such a struggle,
Why should we bother?

I saw the sun come up this morning; and I watched the sky turn blue...

Music, Movies, and Books

too many movies - foreign, indie, documentary, comedy, etc. Recent favorites: The Science of Sleep, Like Water for Chocolate, Capitalism: A Love Story, Pan's Labyrinth, Butterfly

Music - "There are two kinds of music, good and bad." - Duke Ellington
"I guess all songs is folk songs. I never heard no horse sing ." -
Big Bill Broonzy (also attributed to Louis Armstrong).

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is my bible - I read it in English and Spanish.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Danced under the full moon in the wee hours of the morning at Manchester State Beach, CA.

Sat in with Scotty and the Rib
Tips when they were backing Junior Wells at Theresa's Lounge on 43rd St. in Chicago.

Came across a Santeria ritual while walking the backstreets of Havana.

Rode hours on a horse bareback to reach a remote village in Costa Rica, where I stayed with a campesino family.

Electrifying musical performances I'll never forget: Howlin' Wolf at Sylvio's Lounge on the west side of Chicago, Ravi Shankar at the Opera House in
Chicago. Les McCann and Eddie Harris at a small lounge on the south side of Chicago (the first time I heard live jazz), Astor Piazzolla in Buenos Aires, Ruben Blades and Orquesta Van Van at an outdoor concert in Zaragoza, Spain.

Swam underwater with penguins, saw a manta ray, almost attacked by a sea bull protecting his harem as I swam toward his islet in a cove at one of the Galapagos islands.

etc. (I'm old) (oops, one thing?)
