About Me

I've lived the past 3 years in Halifax and France teaching English. I'm making the move to do something else now. I love the outdoors, craft beer, music, board games, theatre, and many other things.

I'm a pretty laid back and easy going guy. Always up for something new and can be quite funny once settled in.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing to get to know new people and culture. Also to get a local's view on their city and country.

I've Couchsurfed in Montreal a few times, Paris, Zurich, Minneapolis, and Winnipeg. I've also hosted. All great experiences so far. Met some fantastic people who I hope come to visit again someday.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, all Bruce Lee movies, Lost in Translation, Into the wild, Before sunrise series, 1970s Solaris, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Howl, and pretty much anything produced by Focus Features.

Most recent tv show I like: Glow
Most recent movies I like: Moonlight and My dinner with Andre.

Music: Father John Misty, Killer Mike, Ella Fitzgerald, Bettye Lavette, Fontella bass, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic zeroes, Silk road ensemble and many more. I generally like folk, blues, soul, jazz, and a bit of classical.

I'm getting more into reading since I got back but I've never been an avid reader. If you have suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. I generally enjoy creepy folk stories. I've read a little H.P Lovecraft and The Weird: A compendium of strange and dark stories.

I also listen to a lot of podcast: McElroy brothers stuff, On the Media, Writer's panel, Writing excuses, Sounds of the trail and many many more. Great for waiting at airports and other long commutes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Did a cross Canada/U.S roadtrip from Halifax to Saskatchewan. Montréal and Halifax are still my favourite cities but seeing abandoned houses/farms in Saskatchewan and the house of blues in Chicago were pretty cool too.

Gone to Evolve a few times and it was pretty great. 3 day outdoor music festival with hippies and ravers and just anyone interested in music.

Lived in France for long periods of time and Germany too. Learned a lot about the world and myself doing this.

A couple of amazing things I've seen: Edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros at Evolve, Sunset in Ireland, Gigantic moshpit at a Stooges concert, and a small town in Nunavut where there was ice surrounding it for as far as you could see.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know some German and French, if you're interested I can teach you some of that. I'm also trained as an English teacher so I can help you with your English, if you would like me to.

I love baking and cooking/baking with other people is a lot of fun. I'd be interested in trying out some new recipes.

Played pool for many years. My Uni had a free to play pool table and went there every lunch hour for 2 years. Playing pool is mostly just practice but I can give a few pointers.

I'd like to learn how to play some new instruments. I'm learning how to play the harmonica right now and I think the banjo would be fun. I'd like to get better at speaking German and French.

But really anything is fine. If it's fun, I'd love to see it.
