About Me

I'm an experimental music composer, sound artist and software developer with a particular interest in digital and analog music synthesis and processing. Currently I'm living in Mysuru, India as a Fulbright-Nehru research fellow studying classical and contemporary music in Karnataka. I'm happy to be joined on this adventure by my partner, Sophia Chung, who's on CouchSurfing here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/sophiachung.

My hobbies and interests include endurance running (10Ks so far, training for a half-marathon), and vegitarian cooking.

In June 2017 I finished a masters degree in digital music at Dartmouth College in the United States.

I have quite a bit of experience Couch Surfing in various countries around the world. Between 2013-14 I lived, traveled, and conducted research in seven countries as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow. My research project, entitled "Experiencing Nature Through Computer Music," took me to three continents over twelve months, and I had the amazing privilege and honor of meeting and staying with artists and researchers in a number of different countries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've surfed in Australia, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, and the United States. I love meeting new people and learning about locations from locals. My ability to host is limited at the moment, but I hope to be able to give back to the community in time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a lot of nonfiction: philosophy (Peter Singer), books on mathematics... I'm particularly obsessed with biographies of the scientists and mathematicians associated with the Institute for Advanced Study in the mid 20th century: J. R. Oppenheimer, Kurt Gödel, John von Neumann, etc. I read some fiction and classics too: David Foster Wallace, and I'm increasingly interested in Japanese literature, especially Junichiro Tanizaki and Kazuo Ishiguro.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiked in the US, slept on the beach in Trieste, Italy, traveled to Northern Norway on a mail ferry in the winter, climbed the world's most active volcano (Mt. Merapi) a week before it erupted, hiked the Laugavegur Trek in Iceland, and visited the Salar de Uyuni (salt flats) in Bolivia.

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States
