Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A lot of the places I have traveled have areas with a lot of poverty. One of my experiences was in Manila Philippines, where I was waiting on my taxi early morning (about 8am) in front of a small convenience store. As I waited there several homeless harassed me for money, and one of the clerks told them to leave me alone. I sat down on a bench in front of the store, and as I sat there, a small young boy about 4 years old came skipping around the corner and sat on the bench right next to me… he was almost on my lap he was so close. As he sat down, he looked at me, and I looked at him. He put his hand out, and I responded “what do youuu want?” in a serious but kind of playful tone. He gestured he was hungry. Then his mother and infant sister came from around the corner, I could see they were hungry and didn’t have any money. The mother was telling the boy to leave me alone as well. But I told him to wait there, and I went inside and bought him 3 pack sandwich, milk, Pringles, formula milk for the baby, and of course some cool candy.. I spent about 8 USD and when I walked outside, I gave the boy the bag of food and told him it was for him and his sister.. I gave the other 2$ plus another 5$ to the mother. The three of them had HUGE smiles on their faces. That was priceless!!

Interests

i really enjoy meeting new and different kinds of people and seeing differnt places around the world and lifestyes... i think of my life as an empty book. A book you fill with experiences and memories....some good and some bad... but all together they make up my life....my goal is to have my book filled with as much as possible before i die.

Teach, Learn, Share

Since I have opportunity to travel and some people don't, I try to give back on each vacation. I got bit by the travel bug...and then I got bit by the "giving" bug. I will bring huge bags of clothes or shoes to give to the poor. On your next vacation, grab a bag you don't need, fill it with old clothes or shoes, and give it to people in need....it will find its way to the right person. Everyone needs some help sometimes.

I enjoy learning from other cultures.... food, language, dance, actions.... anything that is new to me... I at a bird egg in Philippines because a local said it was a specialty (they did it with me).
