About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live more completely.

ABOUT ME

I am a white fairly sheltered farm boy thats outgoing. Growing up in Nebraska has made football more important for me than it probably should be. I have only been outside of the United States once. Going to other countries shifts my personality. I become much more romantic and much more outgoing. Some of my greatest experiences with the opposite sex have been cross cultural.
I am fairly philosophical and enjoy classic literature. I do not have much experience with US city life. I have been to New York City (Manhattan) for one day. I stayed in Chicago for three days. I stayed in Houston and Denver when I was a kid.

PHILOSOPHY

You only get one shot at life. Try your best to do no harm to others and help them as much as you can. You only get one shot at life make sure you enjoy it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am not sure if I will be able to participate other than donating my money occasionally. Although I would entertain the idea of visitors I doubt anyone wants to "surf" Iowa.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have never surfed using this website but I have slept at people's homes in Paris that I met at the US consulate so it wouldn't be a totally novel experience.

Interests

I really love running. Part of what's fun about traveling for me is running in new surroundings. One day I was trying to run to the colloseum in Roma and I got lost for 4 hours. I ran pretty much in every city I have visited in the last few years. Lyons France is my favorite some of the most beautiful and challenging surroundings I have ever seen.
I also enjoy lifting, swimming and yoga. I am still learning in these other areas. I feel like these activities are special because they give me the ability to live in the present moment.
I also enjoy writing fiction (although I am not too good at it yet.) I enjoy talking about philosophy. In particular I like talking about feminism and existentialism.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Dostoevsky. I have just finished "The Idiot" and I have also read Crime and Punishment and Brothers Karamazov as well. My other favorites are Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" and Franz Kafka's "The Trial".

My music taste is all over the place. One girl I dated a few times snidely remarked that that means you superficially like pop areas of all the genres. That may be possible. Some bands I listen to their whole body of work though:
Velvet Underground, Stone Temple Pilots, The Crystal Method, Daft Punk, Rolling Stones, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky, Coltrane, The Black Keys, The Strokes, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Sublime

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I ran through Paris a couple of times. However one night I left my extremely sketchy hotel at 11:00 and came back at 1:45. In that time I had passed Notre Dame, the Louvre, Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower and a good portion of the smaller sites.

I recently ran a marathon without training for it.
