About Me

CURRENT MISSION

be a bit more compassionate and find nowheres!

ABOUT ME

"Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice."

I recently came to the conclusion that the difference between normal and very happy people is based in their relationships, so that's probably the main reason I'm on CS: I love meeting new people, discovering different cultures and seeing new places. I am very simple and a bit talkative (or maybe very talkative), I find happiness in the simplest of things and I am constantly daydreaming! I like music, calm places, being in contact with nature, learning and teaching languages, drinking a lot of beer, swimming, meditation and so on. I lived in Ireland for one and a half year, travelled around Europe for four months, lived in Chile for three months and than travelled around South America. I just came back to São Paulo and I'll be working here from August until I save some money and feel like leaving again. Write me if you need a place, if you fancy a beer (or maybe five), if you want to go for a walk around São Paulo or if you just feel like saying hello! =D

PHILOSOPHY

I've been reading a lot about Buddhism and meditation, and although I don't consider it as my religion, it is something I'm somehow following.
I've been practising mindfulness and loving-kindness, being the latter my main focus.

here are some quotes from books and films, they should help define what I feel..

A man needs to travel. By his means, not by stories, images, books or TV. By his own, with his eyes and feet, to understand what is his. To plant one day his own trees and give them some value. To know the cold for enjoying the heat. To feel the distance and lack of shelter for being well under his own roof. A man needs to travel to places he doesn't know for breaking this arrogance that causes us to see the world as we imagine it, and not simply as it is or may be. That makes us teachers and doctors of what we have never seen, when we should just be learners, and simply... go see it. Amyr Klink, Brazilian Explorer.

Penso: quando voce nao tem amor, voce ainda tem as estradas. And it'€™s ok. Caio Fernando Abreu, Cartas - London, 10.12.90
(I think: When you don't have love, you still have the roads. And it’s ok.)

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun."
— Chris McCandless

"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around, nobody big, I mean, except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff.€” I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be. I know it's crazy." Salinger

€œTraveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things..€“ air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky.. all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it. Cesare Pavese

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can easily say that most of my trips only happened thanks to CSers that I met and every one of them made a difference to my life and I am really thankful to the project, as I am sure that I would not be the same without it. I try my best to give something back to the world and I want to host more people now!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed in Amsterdam with Henk, Brussels with Nadine, Budapest with Sarolta, Vienna with Karl, Segovia with Mauro, Bologna with Caterina, London with Fiona, Barcelona with Natalia, Florence with Jessica, Naples with John, Berlin with Jens, Munich with Bjorn, Utrecht with Jessica, Copenhagen with Gerda, Stockholm with Maud and Frankfurt with Janine, Argentina for a week with Meli, Laura, Rocio and Damaris, and all experiences were amazing and I learned a lot through my hosts.

I also surfed in Paris (with my mother, but not via CS and I always try to help on groups and so on.

I hosted Hector in Sao Paulo, Jaqueline, Leonardo and Paula in Santiago...

Interests

I'm fond of hiking/long walks, mainly within nature.
Into diving and one of my aims is to dive in the Caribbean and the Red Sea.
Beer, beer, beer: what a brilliant human invention, hence my identification with Ireland.
I love languages and I wish I could speak some more languages. I actually want to speak at least 5 till I get 30, is it too much? :)

as I said before I really like languages and right now I'm studying Spanish and I would like to learn French, Italian and maybe some Polish, so it'd be great if you could help me with one of those languages! in exchange I can help you with Portuguese or even English.

I passed the CAE - Cambridge and I studied for months before taking the exam, so if you're thinking of taking either the FCE or CAE, let me know cos I think I'm able to give you some useful tips!
