About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To reach my 150th country soon. And I mean soon!

ABOUT ME

Traveling has been a childhood passion which continue to exist till today. I love listening to people's travel stories and I like sharing my travel experiences. As a child, a compact world atlas book was my solace and I remember rummaging through every pages, consumed by thoughts that one day I will be there. I remember memorizing every capital and major cities. Calendar photos of interesting sights captivated me. World cultures fascinate me. I like reading on world politics and economics. Now, my interest for travel continues. However, I stick to the basic as I feel that immersion is the true essence of traveling. Lately, I have a yen for World Heritage Sites, National Parks, indigenous tribes, amazing architecture, and gastronomic wonders the country has to offer.

PHILOSOPHY

Money is cheap; liberty and freedom is expensive!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have not really been an active member till I decided to check Central Africa. I have been to Africa before and not knowing a local could spell disaster and headache. It was when couchsurfing resurfaced in my plans. When I posted my travel plans, I had numerous potential host. I realized that a vast gamut of opportunities awaits. In my own little way, I host (as long as I am in town) and I try to surf (whenever I can). Just plain awesome!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve been to all countries in North America! All 23 of them.

I have been to all the continents!

I have seen all the countries in the ASEAN including East Timor.

Seen all the New Seven Wonders of the World where I personally think Angkor Wat should be in the list. Having seen all the New Wonders of the World, I feel saddened that this whole internet voting thing is a joke.

I am proud to say I have been to 142 countries.

Got detained by immigration near Ulan Ude, Mongolia when I peed in a wall near the truck stop where urine stench was apparent (no restrooms available). I managed to wriggle my way out of the possible detention after paying approximately 20 USD.

Getting locked out of the hostel in Tromso, Norway during the summer solstice and stayed in a discotheque til 5am just to have a place to stay.

Arriving Legaspi, Albay at 4am via bus from Samar, I opted to sleep in the sidewalk til 6am. At 6am, I took a tricycle to Casagua Ruins as I realized you can only see the perfect cone of Mayon Volcano without any clouds billowing near the top from 6am til 8am.

Enduring the 16 hours sardine can bus ride from Bagan, Myanmar to Yangon, Myanmar.

Was able to see the Pyramids near Cairo, Egypt even without the necessary visa. My visa was good only for the Sinai region of Egypt but despite that, managed to go to Cairo evading possible detention and hefty fines if caught.

Taking a photo just meters away from a Komodo in Rinca, Indonesia knowing that any moment, the komodo dragon might crack open my skull.

Weathering the blizzard storm on Highway 80 near Cleveland, Ohio.

Renting a jeep and just plain getting lost in the remotest inhabited island in the world- Easter Island.

Missing my flight after getting confused with the dates after crossing the International dateline in Papeete, French Polynesia and sleeping in the grasslawn of the airport for a day deeply negotiating with Air New Zealand to rebook me a flight back to Bangkok which was technically impossible as it was an award ticket. Managed to ease my way out!

Being in awe at the beauty of Santorini and getting a room with a magnificent view of the caldera after much haggling.

Piranha fishing and later eating it in the rivers of the Amazon. Yeah, had my very first taste of 2 inch larva collected from small plant pods deep in the Amazon rainforest. It tasted like soft cheese.

Here are the places I have been to in the Philippines:
