About Me

I had a house in Edmonton for a year, but now I’m back to being relatively nomadic In Mexico and unable to host, unless you don’t mind bunking in my hotels. The rest of my profile should speak well enough for who I am.

CURRENT MISSION Out Exploring the world, one footstep at a time

ABOUT ME All about me... I'm not much of a braggart, so this might not be the best forum for me to write in. But I'm doing well in life, traveled well, gainfully employed and in good health. I often travel with my mountain bike, hiking boots, scuba gear and occasionally my skis. So as you can imagine, outdoors, sports and exploration are key parts of my life.

PHILOSOPHY Old enough to know better, too young to care.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING Due to my own travel situations, I do not always ask to be hosted. But I do make every attempt to assist those passing through my area. I always enjoy using CS as a social network in the destinations that I'm traveling/living in. I don't know why this site says I've hosted only 88 people... In reality I've hosted ~300. Hosting vs. surfing ratio is lopsided more than 20:1

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE One weekend, I hosted over 6 people and was hosted myself!! Four were arranged CS'ers, but when I met them in the street there were another two travelers who they had met on the bus who could not find a hostel... so all stayed at my place. They stayed while I visited Zaragoza for a fiesta. Thankfully a CS'er hosted me there! --- I've also had CS'er friends come visit me in the hospital after breaking my heel, and many doubled back on their travels to help me at home!! From hospital visits, to household help, to shopping and from simply being my sanity check during my ~4 months being house bound, there is no better group! Great family!! While living in Ulsan, South Korea, the most I ever hosted at one time was 16 people (and a dog)! A couple teams of people were visiting my fair city for a dragon boat tournament. I've returned to cities simply because of the people I've met. I've attended weddings, parties and family functions of CS'ers. Its a great way to not only learn the destinations, but understand the people too.

Interests

I routinely travel with hiking boots, mountain bike, skis and/or snowboard. I prefer getting off the beaten track and seeing nature where man has not left too many foot prints.

But with all things, I enjoy experiencing other cultures also. Traveling alone and for long periods of time allows greater chances to be absorbed by locals around you. This to me is more invaluable than any trait one could put on their CV's.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read a book once. One that didn't even have any pictures!!

Music to me is less a definition of myself, and more a soundtrack that keeps me company along the way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The list is long and thankfully still getting longer. I'm a nature junkie, so have found myself face to face with all kinds of wild animals from whales to bears great white sharks. I've hitchhiked through Turkey, seen the inside of Chinese jail, been in armored convoys through Pakistan...

Teach, Learn, Share

So far I have visited 88+ countries, Antarctica and all US states (I don’t know why the map on my profile is missing half of them!). I'd be happy to share any insights or anecdotes about any of them.

The places that I listed on my map as having "lived" in, were for periods of time 6 months or longer.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I tell you what I can't offer - grandma's home cooking or 5-star butler service.
