About Me

My name is Julia, (or Jules!)

Have been traveling extensively for the past decade...50 US States an 36 countries and counting!

As of 2022, I have finished renovating and old camper van and I now am headed across Canada (summer 2022), and have plans to move to Australia on a working holiday visa this December.

Being from the US, language acquisition was never thrust upon us or required growing up and it’s not something that my brain is accustomed to. Now at 32, I’m really trying to learn Spanish!! Slow and steady wins the race, as they say. I lived in Mexico for a year+ in 2021-2022 and most of my friends were 65+ gringos and young Mexicans who spoke English very well.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I surfed a ton across the U.S between 2012-2015. Then, between 2015-2017, I toned my traveling down and worked my ass off saving money for a round the world trip. I didn't get to host at all during these years because I lived with my sister at her house and she wasn't cool with hosting random people with her newborn/toddler in the house. I've been traveling fairly consistently since 2017 (except for 2020). I lived in Mexico for most of 2021 and and now am headed across Canada (summer 2022), and have plans to move to Australia on a working holiday visa this December.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite Books: Ender's Game; Pride and Prejudice; Little Women; Atlas Shrugged; The Fountainhead
Favorite Movies: The Goonies; Hot Rod; The Holiday; Star Wars; Avatar, Pride and Prejudice (BBC)
Favorite Music: literally anything except country (yep, I’m one of those)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Can't choose just one.

Diving in Komodo National Park, Indonesia and Sipidan, Malaysia....like....if I could cry underwater, I would have. So much beauty. SO MUCH. They are magical rainbow cotton candy unicorn underwater wonderlands.

Also: watching the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Taunggyi, Myanmar. Y'all...people legitimately make homemade hot air balloons, ladle them with candles and explosives, and then launch them into the air over thousands of people. I actually watched an exploding hot air balloon plummet into a crowd of people (I think someone died). It was simultaneously beautiful and terrifying.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm embarrassingly good at puns. The art of punnery is hard to teach, but I can certainly try.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like singing and I play ukulele veryyy mediocrely (I travel with a miniature uke). So if you sing/play anything, I'm sure we could jam a bit. I also make really good pancakes (pancakes are literally the height of my domestic abilities) and would love to make you some.
