About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get my music out there.

ABOUT ME

My partner and I perform regularly in the country/folk duo, the Muse and Eye (www.revernbation.com/themuseandeye). We live here on Whidbey Island in Sarah's old 1930's home she calls the Redwood Retreat. It's too small right now for us to do much hosting, but we have plans to expand in the near future. I'm a songwriter and teacher; Sarah is an artist and vacation rental manager. Sarah is vivacious, funny, engaging, and loves good conversation. I'm a bit more quiet, and enjoy listening to interesting people tell me about their lives and passions.

PHILOSOPHY

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Name me a better one, and I'll convert.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm a couch surfer right now. Plan to do some hosting in the near future after Sarah and I complete some expansion projects at our home.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed and hosted couch surfers for most of my life, but only recently joined this website to earn official status. I have traveled across much of the U.S. and Canada, parts of Mexcio and several counries in Europe. The majority of those times, lodging was provided by friends, family members or kind strangers. On many occasions, I have hosted all three categories of persons in my home, as well.

Interests

I like stories. I like the words that tell them. I like good storytellers, and try to be one myself. I like music and songs that tell tell stories, and am especially drawn to the music of common American folk, the ones who played guitars slightly out of tune, who played wild old banjos and ringing mandolins.
But I also like good poetry of any stripe and language. I speak French fluently and dabble a bit in Spanish.
I am drawn to spirituality and contemplation of impenetrable mysteries; existence, for example.
I like to travel, enjoy nature's remote places and poking around in them.
I also love exploring interesting cities and experiencing the energy and creativity generated in them.
I love meeting and conversing with creative people of all kinds.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: hmmm. I enjoy them, but am not a movie buff. One of my all time favorites: "Smoke Signals". I thought the Lord of the Rings was pretty good, too.
Books: Yeah, the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit, and a lot of Sci Fi when I was a youngster. The Poet and the Poem by Judson Jerome. Lately, mostly non-fiction, political sorts of things; The One Percent Doctrine, for example.
Music: John Prine, Bob Dylan, Butch Hancock, Joe Ely, John Hartford, Bill Monroe, Hazel Dickens, Townes Van Zandt, Billy Joe Shaver, Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Jimmy Driftwood, Tish Hinojosa

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two nights stranded in Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park after losing our raft going over a waterfall.

Driving down a vast slope on the eastern border of Romania, looking across it into Moldavia past the tiny village below us as we passed a barefoot Romanian man walking down the dusty road towards it. "He is my French teacher," the female hitchhiker in the back seat said.

Hearing Muddy Waters sing the blues in a dingy little room somewhere in Houston in the mid-1970's.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll think on this.
