I am an anthropologist researching traditional Japanese culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Have hosted with CS on and off for six years. Sometimes host, sometimes travel.

Our 100 year old traditional Japanese house is used for Airbnb guests and helps support a traditional group of dancers and musicians keeping traditional Japanese culture alive.
We have been wwoofing and helpx and workaway hosts as well (currently helpx and we often have a few helpers volunteering.
We urgently need helpers right now and can ONLY take couchsurfers who can help us out for a couple of hours in the am (can go out sightseeing anywhere afterwards) ...and can come on a 3 day minimum.....longer preferred....we are currently looking especially for help with:
Cleaning and looking after guests.
Gardening (especially people who actually know what they are doing in a garden!)
People with any kind of handyman skills
People with IT, online marketing, social media, basic computer skills.
Helping to set up a monthly meetup party at the house!

Very happy to have people who want to stay longer, like a week, or a couple of weeks. Couples and friends and groups also very welcome.

Long termers moving to Japan are especially welcome to stay for a long time, on working holiday visas, even up to a year. In that case, need IT and secretarial help from people good at putting applications together who have their own computer.

Good chance to get a short-term bed with us if you speak a language that is NOT on this list (Deutsch, English, Español, Suomi, Français, Magyar, Italiano, 日本語, Nederlands, Русский, ไทย, Tiếng Việt, 中文) and if you are willing to help translate something for us.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have couchsurfed in UK, Dubai, Switzerland, Nepal, Korea, Cairns, Australia, and Tahiti.
Just recently started up again ready to host.

Interests

I like to go hiking a lot. If you are a keen hiker interested in going hiking for two or more days, staying overnight in a mountain hut, enjoying a hot springs bath after coming down the mountain, let me know.

Life is one amazing moment after another, you just have to keep aware of how amazing it is.

Teach, Learn, Share

Can teach about Japanese traditional culture and kimono.

Can tell you about the best way to meet real geisha (not cheap but probably for less than you could anywhere else, and it is one of the most amazing experiences you can have in Japan).

Can go hiking out of Tokyo on weekends.
