About Me

CURRENT MISSION

after CS'ing in S.America for 10 months, I'm eager to offer a home to other travelers. www.TheWorldOnMyBack.com

ABOUT ME

backpacker. entrepreneur. couchsurfer. southpaw. struggling vegetarian. www.TheWorldOnMyBack.com

I am a proud former "homeless" backpacker through the southern cone of South America. I quite a 9-5 job after college, saved up money for 8 months and took a one way ticket to Lima. Spent the next 9.5months in 2013 CSing through Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. I'd love to tell you about it sometime.

PHILOSOPHY

"I view things as they are, without regard to place or person; my country is the world, and my religion is to do good." |thomas paine|

"go confidently in the direction of your dreams." |h.d. thoreau|

if you can help somebody, then why not help them?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I CS'd in S. America for 10 months in Chile & Argentina and am a better person for it. needless to say, I love couchsurfing and recommend it to anybody. I host people in Austin, TX in my apartment. During SXSW, I once hosted 14 people - all strewn about my apt floor and 2 people even sleeping on the balcony.

I begun w CS while i was backpacking through s.america for 9months and was amazed at the experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS promotes a lifestyle to radical openness - and i dig it. it offers a platform for people to be vulnerable and trusted simultaneously, it's a beautiful thing.

I've stayed with hosts of all sorts. Different backgrounds, lifestyles, experiences, circumstances, languages, preferences and accommodations (ask me about the trailer in Argentine Patagonia). Some have been more pleasant than others but it's been a great experience overall. I've been CS'ing since December of 2012 through Chile and plan to do it through the south of Chile into Argentina, up to Uruguay and into Brazil.

i have met some of the most interesting and welcoming people in my life through cs. i've stayed with people who were "strangers" when we first met, and lifelong friends by the time we split ways. that's what i love about couchsurfing - is the human connection.

Interests

traveling is clearly a priotory for me. i also love the outdoors - riding my bike, hiking, anything that lets you reconnect with nature. language learning is also a passion of mine: taught myself spanish in s.america and a bit of portuguese.

big fan of technology and the capacity for the internet to connect people and share experiences. my work is in social media and events - another interest of mine. i also maintain my travel website that has AMAZING written accounts of my journeys/experiences/thoughts

Music, Movies, and Books

i don't watch much tv or mainstream movies but i do enjoy the occasional documentary on netflix - usually about travel, veg diet, social conditions, etc. i also really like watching/playing jeopardy.

i'm trying to get into the habit of reading more books than i have in the past. i read online all day but not in book form, usually.

THE ALCHEMIST (book by paulo coehlo) and 180degrees SOUTH (movie) changed my life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

hiked the inca trail to Machu Picchu, sailed through Lake Titicaca, saw a car jacking in Lima, touched a llama in Bolivia, went through the world's largest salt flats, got rescued from drowning to death by a bodyboarder in Reñaca, got mugged by two guys in Chile, felt the beauty of the Universe in random moment across our planet.

These are the countries I've been to as of January 2014:
