About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Occasional hosting/surfing

ABOUT ME

Bright, curious, with a range of interests, both cultural and outdoor. Pretty quiet and low key. Have worked as commercial writer, photographer, editor, business consultant. Love traveling in the US and abroad, but don't go as much as I'd like. If I won the lottery, I'd visit every UNESCO World Heritage Site.

PHILOSOPHY

In ten words or less: Live and let live. Seize the day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hope to be both a host and guest.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Crashing on floors and couches when young. Except in urban areas, I tend to camp.

Interests

Enjoy hiking, backpacking, and kayaking in the Ozarks. Closer to home, I enjoy reading fiction, American history and spiritual/philosophical stuff in serious moments. Photography is a hobby and former occupation. I'm interested in energy-efficient building techniques with an eye toward building a small retirement home.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: A favorite old one is The Third Man; recent one is Twilight Samurai; lean toward small, indie features. Music: mostly lyrical and Latin jazz, blues, rock, world, songs with witty or intelligent lyrics. Book: recently 1491, Jefferson Bible; Wine Wars.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Assisting in the birth of my children. Hearing Gregorian chants at a Catholic monastery in Vietnam at sunset. Waking in a hayfield at sunrise among the red rocks near Arches in Utah. Visiting a Hindu temple complex in Nepal and, from a distance, watching a family carry out cremation rituals for a loved one. Seeing my first California condor soaring below me from the heights in Zion National Park.

Teach, Learn, Share

Could provide some information about hiking trails, floating rivers and group outdoor events, plus local tourist information. What I'd like to learn? How to be comfortable on a dance floor with swing music onward; what would be interesting to see in someone's home area.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
