About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Discover new things, new places, new talent- not just my own.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 50 year old, Dutch male. Looking for nice ways to travel and stay in new surroundings, see, live, do and observe. Be hyper-curious about everything, keeping life worth living.

I don't always see messages on time, so if you don't here from me, mail me on renkvanoyen@gmail.com

PHILOSOPHY

"Always be on a mission"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in Amsterdam, home to Rembrandt, gay nightlife, museums, squats and festivals. I can show you around and take you to the more off-track places in the city.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've travelled quite a lot. Usually stayed in appartments or hotels. I can't stand camping but I'm not that bothered about sharing a house, a bed or couch. Like meeting new people.

Interests

culture, hurdy gurdy, music, theatre, festivals, events, restaurants, the unknown, poetic chance encounters. The latter makes me naive sometimes, but it encourages synchronicity, in which I am a great believer.

Music, Movies, and Books

horror movies, English (UK) sitcoms, poetry, Garmarna, Valravn, Triakel, Stephane Durand. Can just aswell enjoy the occasional ABBA or Vivaldi. Wide taste in music and books. Love mostly anything with (electro) hurdy gurdy in it but absolutely detest rap. A penchant for books about idiotic knowledge, noone else wants to know about, like "the history of laughter in the southern Netherlands, in 16th and 17th century" or learn recipe's for ancient Roman winemaking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Having been on tour with an actual circus! I was a photographer and clown! I've always had a thing for signs that say "out of bounds", "strictly no admittance" etc, as they have a magnetic effect on me, granting me access to special, sometimes dangerous but always interesting places, like e forbidden room at the palace of king Minos on Crete, the hull of a ship, coming into eye contact with a real lion, centre stage in the theatre etc. I was nearly robbed by an armed Chechenian terrorist in Krakow, but actually bluffed my way out!

Teach, Learn, Share

- To teach:
I can teacht to write for theatre, poetry, stories etc;
Direct plays and street theatre;
Concept and program cultural events & festivals;
Organise events and exhibitions;
Set up cultural excange programs.

I'm a good improvisor, hands-on, not easily shocked.

- Want to learn:
Other languages;
About other cultures;
To play hurdy gurdy even better: All kinds, from electric hurdy gurdy (you didn't know that excisted, did you?), to grottaliran and synfonia);
To play shawm;
To be able to juggle;
To make special effects for horrorfilms
To create better staged photography

What I Can Share with Hosts

Apart from wonderful stories and nice company? I'm a skilled concepter and imagineer, aswell as a director. I can give advice and coaching on new concepts or services. Give English conversation lessons, work towards a presentation. Or just be me... for you ;) I'm a fairly good cook but love to eat out aswell.
