About Me

CURRENT MISSION

hosting folks (especially those who like the outdoors) in the Central Texas Hill Country and the Big Bend Region

ABOUT ME

Triple vaxxed. Multilingual, conscientious guy who loves the outdoors (camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, caving) and foreign cuisine. I am a certified Texas Master Naturalist (as in ecology, not nudity lol). I have a clean, comfortable home with a large kitchen and 2 roommates (one gay and one straight). We are progressive-minded, eco friendly liberals. We are omnivores, but can and do enjoy accommodating vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, and just about any other dietary considerations. I currently live and work at Big Bend Ranch State Park, but also have a home in San Antonio where I am also glad to host when I’m there.

PHILOSOPHY

The central purpose of each life should be to dilute the misery in the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am using CS in my travels and repaying it as a host when I am home. I enjoy making good, healthy meals for our travelers to give them a break from fast food on the road. We also have a washer and dryer you can use. I mostly host (a lot) and set up camping trips for our local CS crowd and anyone else who likes to join us.
WE LOVE TO HOST MUSICIANS!!! :D

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted dozens and dozens of times and we seem to manage to always have a great time. :)

Interests

I volunteer as a cave, camp, and kayak guide at Texas State Parks. We go on a lot of camping, kayaking, river tubing, and caving trips all year round. I also used to be a sous chef in Austin, TX and am great at making Mexican, Italian, and Korean food. I give informative talks on Big Bend National Park and other state and natinal parks in and around Texas.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Hero With 1000 Faces, Silent Spring, anything by John Muir, The Color Purple, Black Elk Speaks, The Sun Also Rises.
Fleet Foxes, The Shins, Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch, Japanese Breakfast, Tame Impala, Chemical Brothers

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am a certified Texas Master Naturalist. We are a cadre of trained ecologists with a variety of specialties.

Teach, Learn, Share

We really enjoy sharing meals, craft beer, and wine and if it so happens to line up I am happy to take people on a camping trip and show you some beautiful parts of the Texas hill country. Talk about local ecology, biodiversity, and our many beautiful natural resources and history.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am an excellent cook and very tidy and conscientious.
