About Me

2024 Update: I can sometimes host people on short notice in a private room in Northern Berlin (close to Gesundbrunnen). If my status is on "(maybe) accepting guests", feel free to message me for stays <3 days in advance. No need to write a personalized message, just a very quick simple one will do (as long as you have at least some info on your profile, and ideally also references).

The rest of this hasn't been updated since 2017, so some of this is outdated:

ABOUT ME:

I grew up in Germany, then spent two years working, volunteering and traveling around Asia and finally ended up in Amsterdam, where I currently study environmental science and organize dance events for a good cause with my foundation (www.love-foundation.org).

I believe that a lot of our problems today are caused by our disconnection from each other and from nature, so I want to dedicate my time to close this gap. Therefore I want to learn more about the natural and social systems we live in and how to transform them into more sustainable systems.

I'm always keen to meet new people and broaden my horizon :)

PHILOSOPHY

"Don't become too narrow. Live fully. Meet all kinds of people. You'll learn something from everyone. Follow what you feel in your heart."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far I only had great experiences both surfing with and hosting other couchsurfers. I love the idea of unconditional giving and sharing that Couchsurfing runs on, and I believe the world could use some more of this spirit.

Interests

Volunteering. Working for something you believe in, something greater than yourself.
Alternative ways of sustainable and environmental-friendly living.
Traveling, experiencing other cultures and mindsets.
Sharing, discussing, learning and inspiring.
Music festivals, dance parties, making music (guitar and percussion) and snowboarding.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy art which was created because the artist felt the need to express himself, and not for commercial reasons.

I listen mainly to Goa (psychedelic trance), but also electro, indie, psychedelic rock etc. Some of my favourites are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd, John Frusciante, Stromae, Shpongle, Infected Mushroom and Liquid Soul.

My favourite movie is "INTO THE WILD", the true story about a young man escaping home in search of adventure, truth and himself.
Others are "Same Same But Different", "Inglourious Basterds", "Inception", "Forest Gump", "Les Intouchables" and "Seven Years in Tibet". I also get inspired by documentaries such as "Voices of Transition".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I volunteered as an English teacher in Northeastern Thailand where I taught Thai kids aged 8-15 for five weeks. The area was very rural, free-roaming chicken and rice fields everywhere and hardly anyone spoke English (so I learned a fair bit of Thai), but everyone was incredibly welcoming to me. During my stay I lived with a host family and was able to experience everyday life in rural Thailand first hand.
I’m grateful to all people who made my time there so wonderful. I learned a lot about teaching, Thai culture and mindset.

Another great experience was trekking in the north of Thailand: Hiking through remote jungle, eating what nature gave us, and meeting people who have lived all their life in the bush.

I love to share stories about Nepal, Cambodia, Myanmar and so on, if you're interested just ask me :)
