Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been living in Lima, Peru since november 2010 and I am getting to know the city. So I can give you advice and help from the point of view of a recently arrived European. I can offer you a couch, but keep in mind that the Molina district is an hour's bus ride away from the more touristic places like Miraflores, Barranco or Lima centro. On the other hand, it is a quiet residential district where you can relax after a busy day of visiting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have seen how it works at friends' homes. No personal experiences yet. Already met some nice people, though.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

I particularly like Rock'n'Roll. I have come to like all kinds of music with the passing of the years. But I always come back to this first love of my younger years. My favourite is Buddy Holly. He wore glasses!

I like reading Hermann Hesse, Italo Calvino. I am very touched by the vision of the world in "The Glas Bead Game".
I was quite fascinated, too, by Garcia Marquez' "100 years of solitude".
My favourite german author, "Heinrich Böll" is unfortunately much underrated nowadays. His day will come again!
Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" was one of very few books that left a lasting impression on me.
I read Buzzati's "Tartar Desert" with much interest, although I never really got to grips with the French existentialists like Camus and Sartre (and I live in this country!!!). But "The beautiful images" by Sartres companion Simone de Beauvoir impressed me very much and was my first major read in French. Great stuff and quite an eye-opener!

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

When I rode to the North Cape with my pushbike. I got up early and rode past a vast lake. No wind, the surface of the water just like a mirror. And two huge birds flew away across the lake. The tips of their wings slightly touched the surface leaving little circles on the vast water surface.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

Try to listen to people. I am very talkative. So it often happens to me that after having met a person I may never see again, I say to myself "I have told him/her so much about myself. I did not let them speak. I haven't learned anything about/from them. And maybe I missed a great occasion of learning something". Try to keep open in that sense. Keep your antennas on reception. You can learn by anybody, not only people who may be sympathetic.
