About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get unbearably happy!!

ABOUT ME

I joined CouchSurfing because we have a spare bedroom that is usually empty and I wanted to use it to broaden my horizons, introducing me to new people. Now our focus is changing. Tom and I are both retired. We used CouchSurfing to amplify our "big adventure" while traveling through Southeast Asia. I wrote 43 episodes of my blog (http://rebeccazelanin.wixsite.com/rebeccazelanin/travel-blog). We traveled Space Available via Military Hop from the US and back to the US 10 months later via Paya Lebar RSAF Singapore.
PHILOSOPHY
My universe is a marvelous, gentle place that protects and cares for me and my family. I am definitely a "Law of Attraction" kind of person. I believe that you must accept people where they are. If you don't like how they think or act, then stay away from them, because they are not going to change for you. That said, I can put up with almost anyone or any situation for awhile. I love to meet people who think differently than I do because it makes me question what I think. If you can show me a better way, I'd be happy to embrace it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've enjoyed the company of a number of surfers in our home and I've surfed in Canada once myself. I find it always leaves me happier than I was before. The connections we made via CouchSurfing during our "Big Asian Adventure" were amazing and I'll cherish them all my life.

Interests

I'm a seeker, so way too much grabs my attention. My desk is always covered with books from the library. Most recent forays are into hypnosis, Zentangle and innumerable books on audio. I love to cook - and I'm good at it. I can sew - I used to design my own clothes. I do a little artwork and acting here and there. My husband and I scuba dive. We ballroom dance (occasionally now). I garden (flowers mostly). AND MORE

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Our "Big Asian Adventure " is the most amazing thing I'm doing now. We have no itinerary and no solid plan: we are just going to travel Southeast Asia until Tom finds a job or we run out of money. More about it at:
RebeccaZelanin.com
Previously, visiting Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon and Jerusalem. You can see the pictures of all three, but you cannot ever get the vastness of the Grand Canyon, the sheer never-ending volume of water going over the edge of the Niagara Falls or the feel of the ancient history in the hollowed steps of the Old City in Jerusalem. Each one gave me a larger sense of who I am while pointing out my insignificance in the scheme of life. It also made me realize that today in this time that I am living, I have more freedom to choose who I am and what I want to do than any other time in history.

Teach, Learn, Share

Tom and I spent ten months on our "Big Asian Adverture." If you're interested you can read about it here:

We would love to meet people who make our experience more interesting with more local flavor - you know that stuff you never know about unless some who lives there tells you about it. We can tell you how we made this dream become a reality!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My attention: I'm interested in what you know about where you live. The best thing about CouchSurfing is to land in the home of someone who can help you with the ins and outs of where you are and help you avoid pitfalls. I can also cook if you are so inclined to give me reign over your kitchen.
