About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Used to be travel the world and meet new people. I have since settled down in Philadelphia where I study medicine and neuroscience in a quest to become a healer and cure disease.

ABOUT ME

Traveling is my passion. I love culture, language, and people. This stems from my love of learning. Previously, learning from traveling was on the top of my list. Now, I am receiving a formal education in both medicine and science in an MD/PhD program. I also love sports; ice hockey is my favorite sport to play but American football is my favorite to watch. (Yes, I love soccer too, but only really follow national teams). Yoga now plays a major role in my life as I am a dedicated Ashtangi. I am just about 100% Irish and actually a citizen of both Ireland and the United States of America.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that all people are equal and my (previous) main goal in life was to see the world. My secondary main goal was to learn as much as possible and accomplish as much as I can while being happy and having fun. I have an open mind and an open heart and I hope to continue to grow and change throughout my life.

The above was a philosophy that led to me to use my knowledge and talents to study medicine and truly accomplish something great with my life by giving back and healing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a pretty small couch in my small apartment in Philadelphia. I am usually super busy with school, but I would host a fellow traveler if everything worked out. I don't drink that much these days but I am still Irish and know how to party. I love to have fun so if you're in town I can show you around. I could also cook you some good American food!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used couch surfing throughout my stay in France.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Carnivale in Venice, G20 summit in Pittsburgh (saw the president of Russia speak and even asked him a question), swam with sting rays in Mexico, played hockey against Bobby Ryan (Ottawa Senators), made a contribution to Alzheimer's disease literature with my own research, organized an antiwar march in Pittsburgh, traveled across the United States in a pop-up camper, traveled (camped) down the entire West Coast of the U.S., been to almost every state in the U.S., saw the Pope...

Teach, Learn, Share

An interesting study I learned about; When a group of nuns were inducted into a nunnery at a young age (18-22), each one wrote a personal statement about their life, purpose, etc. They all lived together in the nunnery eating the same food and performing the same behaviors for their entire lives. A nunnery is not a very exciting place. The nuns grew old together and some of these nuns eventually developed Alzheimer's disease (AD). The incidence and age of onset of AD in these nuns could be accurately predicted by the complexity of the language they used in their personal statements many years before!! The study suggests that people are predisposed to develop AD at the early age of 20!

Knowledge of almost every type. I am an MCAT tutor, Step 1 master, and have something to say about just about everything... especially after a few drinks. But I would love to learn from what you have to say
