ABOUT ME

I was born in NZ, went on a 6 month trip to the UK 17 years ago and never quite made it back home. I love sport but seem to be perpetually injured (damn it). If strange stuff is going to happen it normally finds me to do it to. I've been lucky enough to have been to a few places and had some interesting experiences along the way (apologies in advance if I end up telling too many stories). I love this beautiful planet and most of the people on it (ever the optimist). Ciao.

PHILOSOPHY

Value diversity, alternativeness and energy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lots of 'unofficial' surfing and now some real 'couchsurfing' and all good.

Interests

No. 1 has got to be TRAVEL and EXPERIENCES. The planet we live in is such an awesome awesome place.People. I love human interaction. I also like the other extreme of solitude so I guess I'm balanced!Other stuff is sport namely tennis, squash, skiing, water-skiing (on the rare occasions I'm not injured) and cars, motorbikes and boats. I go through stints of addiction on new stuff I come across. These phases have included scrabble, blackwater rafting, waveskiing and the pyschic world amongst others.visited 65 states (28.8%)Create your own visited map of The World or Like this? try: Word Color

Music, Movies, and Books

There are some fantastic films out there but favourites have to be Goodwill Hunting and Dead Poets Society.

Music. Well, in a moment of madness I bought a 1908 Bechstein Grand which had a previous life in Liverpool theatre. Wonderful sense of history but I left it in my garage one winter and killed the soundboard which was a bit of a tragedy. Sadly I can't find the spare £10k to restore it.

Books. The Alchemist, Jonathon Livingston Seagull, One by Richard Bach and Mandela's masterpiece were the most thought provoking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Memorable moments I guess include
- landing a plane on a beach in NZ
- staring into the eyes of an all too rare mountain gorilla in Uganda
- cage diving with great whites in South Africa
- spending a bit of time in Antarctica surrounded by stunning scenery
- getting mugged by a bunch of street kids in Lima late one night whilst being very lost
- being part of some really weird spiritual (non-drug induced) events during my pyschic phase
- mountain biking down 64km of "Death Road" in Bolivia
- experiencing my first lunar rainbow at Vic Falls
- but always looking forward to whatever comes next...

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll do a bit of a cheat and take a quote from a book I once read. Goes something like this
"If I do not want what you want, please try not to tell me that my want is wrong.
Or if I believe other than you, at least pause before you correct my view.
Or if my emotion is less than yours, or more, given the same circumstances, try not to ask me to feel more strongly or weakly.
Or yet if I act, or fail to act, in the manner of your design for action, let me be.
I do not, for the moment at least, ask you to understand me. That will come only when you are willing to give up changing me into a copy of you."
