About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet new people from around the world

ABOUT ME

I am a Dutch person living in the old part of Baden-Baden where I work and study as a web-developer. Before this I completed my bachelor in fine arts in the Netherlands. I've exhibited in a few museums and festivals after graduation. I also lived for 5 years in Boston USA and got to know many people there. I recently moved to Germany and I'm learning the language and looking forward to meet more people here.

My interests are in arts, sailing, horse-riding, swimming, traveling and electronic music.

PHILOSOPHY

Keep laughing.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I used to host people in Arnhem where I grew up. After that while living and studying in Enschede and Boston I hosted some people as well. Next to that I've used this platform to find a place while traveling in Japan and Frankfurt am Main. I have met great people trough this, for which I'm very grateful.

I've made a great trip hitchhiking trough Japan, Couchsurfing was a really great tool there to meet new people and find a place to stay. This was a really fun adventure. When I returned I tried to host people at my own home in return.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a lot of people, it was really fun! Once an orchestra of twelve people from Argentina were sleeping at my place, they we're playing in a concert hall in Amsterdam and were really happy that they could all stay at my place. They played some music for us and brought some candy from Argentina. We really had a good time! Also I offered last minute-couches while in Arnhem, for people who were in desperate need for a place to stay. They were very grateful, and I was happy to help out because so many people have helped me while travelling.

Interests

Traveling: I've been to England, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Turkey, Egypt, India, Japan, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine and the USA and I still want to go to Mongolia and Finland.

I used to practice Japanese martial arts, and next to that archery and horseback riding. But these days I do mostly hikes here in the hills in Germany. I like to be active and improve myself in my skills, person and moral.

Art, I graduated with a bachelor in fine arts, I've made interactive installations and worked at festivals and clubs as an video artist. I love the feeling unification when music, surroundings and experience come together.

Music, Movies, and Books

I used to watch a lot of movies and sometimes still do, some of my favorite shows were: Lost, Game of Thrones, Vikings, Shaka Zulu, Breaking Bad, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Léon: the Professional.

I've been reading the books of George R.R. Martin: The Song of Ice and Fire.

Recently I mostly watch Youtube shows, some of my favorite channels are from Adam Savage, Lex Fridman and Mark Felton.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My first hitchhiking trip was with two friends from Berlin to Copenhagen and the Netherlands. We were really surprised we made it, we met some awesome people and got see some really cool places.

My next trip was hitchhiking from The Netherlands to Hungary, and this was my first time doing it alone, when I arrived I met up with friends at the Sziget festival in the center of Budapest. We had great time there.

After that I went to Japan solo, and have been hitchhiking there, I was surprised how easy it can be to get around. But with the monsoon coming it was also very wet at times. I traveled to Sapporo to avoid the rain, the coast line is amazing to seen there. After that I traveled to Niigata, Nagano, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagasaki. And although I didn't speak the language people were very friendly. I was very happy to have experienced this amazing country.

More recently I've been living and working in the USA and saw many great cities there, I've been to Miami, New York City, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Boston and Philadelphia. I still plan to visit Denver this summer.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have experience in digital arts, I have taught for two years some classes on interactive arts. I have experience teaching the Dutch language on university level while I was in Boston. Next to that I speak fluent English. I'm open to do a language exchange, languages I'm interested in learning are: French, Spanish, German, Japanese and Ukrainian.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm happy to meet up and explore parts of Germany together, share stories and have some drinks!
