About Me

Sarah and I used CS from 2009-2020, but quit after technical difficulties that CS never fixed (we stopped getting notified of requests). We're starting CS again with a new account to fix the problem, but have lost all of our references and reviews! Sarah, is also a retired teacher and, unlike me, she is a polyglot fluent in English and German, also gets by in French, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin. We live just outside Glacier National Park in Montana. We have children and grandchildren. We're liberal non-Christians.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We enjoy making new friends whiles sharing travel experiences with visitors around our beautiful area, and when visiting new places in the world. We have CS friends who we have had reciprocal visits with, and even gone on extended vacations with several times. Travelers and wanders are pretty cool people!

Music, Movies, and Books

We both enjoy classical music (Mozart is probably our favorite composer) and Sarah is principal bassist for the Glacier Symphony. We were both members of the Tropical Montana Marimba Ensemble. We like a wide range of movies, including those by Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino. We are both avid readers and have been in several book clubs. We like just about everything...modern and classic literature, historical fiction, sci-fi, history, cultural philosophy, anthropology and much more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Alan and one of our daughters got to be alone for 15-20 minutes in the main burial chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Sarah rode in flat-bottom open river boats, as a bassist with the Fairbanks Symphony, to perform at various native villages in Alaska.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can reassure foreigners that there are many sane and thoughtful people in the USA who do not believe in the absurd workings of the GOP, and DO believe in science, education, gun control, reproductive health choices, and civil rights for anyone who is not hurting others. We enjoy sharing with visitors the spectacular beauty of our part of the world, mountain hiking and camping, river canoeing and lake sailing, x-country skiing and snowshoeing, and Montana history. Sarah really enjoys learning about languages, and is a great cook.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can share meals, information, suggestions and adventures in our part of the world, and love to do so with others in their home area.
