Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the world and leave it a better place

ABOUT ME

Fun-loving and enthusiastic but laid-back. I've recently completed a Masters degree and am trying to get in some adventure before settling into my next job.

I'm currently taking advantage of my "fun-employment" to travel around Australia, see some cool places, meet some great people, and reconnect with my Aussie relatives. I'll be applying for jobs all over so don't really know where I'll end up next! If you have to go through the headaches of online applications, might as well do it from somewhere nice and warm :)

PHILOSOPHY

Just say yes.

"Education is a wonderful thing, provided you realize the only things worth knowing can never be taught." - Oscar Wilde

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am surfing right now as I'm travelling around Australia and New Zealand.

Once I am settled in my next home I look forward to hosting people, where ever that may be! For now I can contribute to my hosts by sharing my company, experiences, and some home-cooked meals. For those interested in visiting my home country of Canada or the United States I can at least share some travel tips.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Unofficially have couch surfed before, through South East Asia and Japan.

Officially I have just joined CS and look forward to surfing for now, and hosting in the future.

Intereses

Travel (duh!)
I've been sailing since before I could walk and love to get on the water any chance I get. In the winter you'll find me on the ski hill as much as possible. While I don't consider myself an athlete by any means, I will try anything once and I'm really looking forward to getting into surfing on this trip. I also really enjoy attending professional sports and am a big fan of my local teams (Vancouver Canucks! Go Whitecaps!)
As a long-time dancer I'm also a big music fan - whether its dancing up a storm in a club or catching some cool live music, I appreciate almost all varieties.
I love food but want to avoid the term "foodie" - I really enjoy trying the local cuisine wherever I travel (whether it's a 5-star restaurant or the local greasy diner or food cart) and attempting to recreate my favourites at home. I'd love to cook with/for my hosts and maybe try some of your favourites!
My passion is health and healthcare and am hoping to combine that with my love of travel in a career in global health access and development. I'm always happy to talk about that!

Música, películas y libros

Music ... so difficult! I love just about everything from jazz to classic rock (The Who, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and who doesn't love the Beatles) to the modern guitar-driven, blues-heavy rock (like the Black Keys) and folk-inspired comeback (Mumford and Sons) and all this great electronic music and beyond (Alt-J, Capital Cities, Haim). And I loooove music festivals where I can be introduced to so much great new stuff.
Movies ... I love a good heist movie (Italian Job, Ocean's 11), psychological thrillers with a good twist (Fight Club ... maybe I shouldn't share them as to give away the twist!), spy movies (any James Bond), cheesy dance movies and musicals (Centre Stage, Moulin Rouge), british humour (any Monty Python, Shaun of the Dead, Waking Ned Devine). Have you ever seen Earth Girls Are Easy? Probably not, but try. It's a cult classic and a hilarious movie.
Books ... currently reading The Wolf of Wall Street as I'm going through a fascination with corporate America and the financial crisis. I don't get a ton of time for reading outside of text books, until recently I guess. I either go for terrible, guilty-pleasure, quick-read fiction (like Twilight) or non-fiction tied into whatever I'm interested in at the moment, because I'm a nerd and I like to learn something. David Sedaris is also always good for a laugh.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Riding an elephant in Thailand.
Walking along the Great Wall of China.
Working in Thailand with a 16 year-old boy who immigrated from Burma at the age of 12 to provide for his family, who was more mature and composed than most 26 and 36 year-olds I know, delivering medicine to HIV affected families in the rural areas.
Running a triathlon in the Napa Valley, California.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I can teach you how to sail. I might even be able to teach you how to dance.

I would love to learn how to cook new things and I can share by cooking you what I do know.

I also want to learn new languages, and if you would like to practice English I can certainly help out.
