About Me

I love to travel, engage my passions and discover new ones. I enjoy getting to know people from all walks of life. Currently living in the bay area of CA, USA.

I work as an industrial engineer/consultant in healthcare currently, but am going back to school for a degree in health policy modeling September 2016.

PHILOSOPHY

Growing up, the story of Noah and the Ark was a mainstay of my Sunday School class. Noah builds an ark, collects two of each animal, and when the floodwaters come, he and his family are saved. Eventually the flood abates, a dove brings Noah an olive branch, and God creates a rainbow- the happy ending. As a young adult I seldom thought of this story until artist and activist Ellen O'Grady caused me to revisit it.

O'Grady's Sunday School teacher read the happy story from a large picture book. After God made the rainbow, most children seemed contented, but one boy was bothered. He asked, "Where did all the bodies go?"

The teacher was puzzled, so the boy explained. "If everyone in the world died except Noah's family, where were their bodies after the flood went away?"

The teacher frowned at the child and said, "“What a rude boy."

I aim to be like the little boy, exploring life outside the comfort of my ark and engaging with people and realities I might never come across otherwise!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hearing commercial sex workers in Honduras share their experiences with HIV/AIDS and the tremendous sacrifices they had made for their families.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love for you to teach me how to cook something new or tell me a story about yourself.

I'm interested in issues surrounding diversity and social justice. My professional/academic passions mostly relate to improving the delivery of healthcare. I'm a nerd and would love to learn or share with others around that topic.

I grew up (not couch) surfing and would be glad to teach anyone if they're in my hometown of Wilmington, where my parents' home is, at the same time I am (or if I'm near any other body of water with waves).

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Belize, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Kenya, Lesotho, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, United States
