About Me

We live in an amazing home and enjoy the folks who pass through to share it with us. As you can see from our references we have lived the Couchsurfing life and love both hosting and traveling to meet the most hospitable people in the world: Couchsurfing Hosts...

We are located in Nags Head, NC; 1.5 miles from Jennette’s Pier. (The Beach) and about 1.5 miles from Pirates Cove that is on Roanoak Island. The water our house looks over is the Roanoak Sound. Pond Island is local island name on the Causeway that crosses the sound.

Please be aware that at this time we are only saying a definite yes to last-minute requests. Every request except last minute will be a "Maybe" reply usually till about 24 hours before the stay. Though we may can make an exception occasionally. So try to sort out an alternate plan if you need to count on a place. But if last minute you want to see if we have a room available and we do within 24 hours we will be able to tell you a definite yes or no on availability. We run a business of renting rooms and sometimes pay others to clean the rooms folks stay in. We have consistently held "SuperHost" almost perfect 5-star rating for years and so our rooms are as close to perfectly clean as possible. Please only request to stay with us if you are willing to return the room to us the same way it was when you entered, 5 star clean and ready for the next guest to check in, Your mother doesn't live here and will not be cleaning your room for you unless you bring her on your trip. So that is a responsibility you are agreeing to if you make a stay request with us. We all practice "no trace left behind" in common areas. And to help us know you read at least the first part of our profile please make some reference to the idea of "No Trace Left Behind" in your stay request.

About us:
We have 4 adult children 28 to 36, and 8 grandchildren. (a lot of other semi adopted exchange students and friends of our children we claim as our own also) We have always loved being the home where the kids all hang out.

We are easygoing and enjoy meeting and being helpful to the folks who come across our path.

Since discovering Couchsurfing we have had such a great experience both as surfers and hosts, that when we travel and have to stay in a hotel, we feel we have paid someone to put us in solitary confinement.

We don't usually spend but an hour over a meal or a brief time interacting with our guests. A chat over coffee and cereal or other breakfast. Often one of the three nights of a typical stay we make a plan to go out to eat together at a favorite place or cook a meal together. Mostly we just see each other in those small bits of time coming and going and have some short visits in-between. We are happy to spend more time with guests and hosts as time allows and both are willing to participate. Hospitality this way is easy to give and receive.
Of course, on occasion, our days off line up and we get to spend more time. We love it when this happens.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

About 10 years ago, Suzanne had to do a clinical as part of a school course, in Durham, NC. Some friends (Gene and Kay Atkinson) introduced us to CS friend (Phil Bowling) who showed us a depth of hospitality through CS that we fell in love with. We want to be like Phil and many of the other amazing hosts and surfers we have met when we grow up.

Hospitality is a great way of sharing the blessings of life and getting to know new friends etc.

Interests

People are the most fun! Meeting new people, including folks who are not just like us, or folks we know, is something that is always a wonderful surprise with each Couchsurfing adventure.

Music, Movies, and Books

I (Brad) have an audiobook going like most folks listen to music, or I am studying as a student for something new or old. Some of my favorite books in fiction are: Based on Horatio Nelson type characters such as "Horatio Hornblower" from the 1770s era of sailing ships. Hunt for Red October, Tom Clancy books. Gary Chapman, Bob Goth, John Maxwell, Donald Miller, I like Scifi, my favorite British author is Christopher G. Nuttall. A Traders Tale from the Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series.
Suzanne likes a lot of the same(other than Sci-fi is not her first choice, though for my sake she will watch or listen with me if I ask. She is much more "action-adventure" and detective figure-it-out series and movies ) She especially likes the "Love Does". One of her favorite movies is Erin Brockovich (looking out for the underdog) and she loves music...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"Trying to be more interested than interesting"

Teach, Learn, Share

Our motto is "see one, do one, teach one".
Suzanne may can teach you something new in the kitchen, Brad can too if it is about washing dishes.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We know how to be courteous and appreciative and respectful.
Kayaks are usually available to use at no cost,
Brad captains, private dolphin tours or other boating people pay for, feel free to ask about opportunities and discounts if that interest you.
