About Me

I’m trying to think of how my friends would describe me in one sentence and I think they might say something like, “She’s genuine and engaging, she’s a talented artist, and she really likes the Shins.”

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I love to experience new things. When I visit somewhere new, I want to hike to an old abandoned schoolhouse and tell ghost stories, or swim in a hidden watering hole that you can't see the bottom of, or get lost intentionally and really let myself wander, y'know? And when I meet someone new, it's so nice when we can connect over that love of adventure, either by sharing an actual experience together, or by story-telling.

Interests

Here are some of my interests: the golden age of book illustration, badminton, Scrabble, printmaking, kayaking, etymology, bits of history, psychology, sacred harp (and singing in general), yoga, meditation, fashion, writing, and sometimes reading.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: True Romance, Princess Mononoke, Bottle Rocket, the Princess Bride, Return to Me, Say Anything, TV: Star Trek Voyager, X-Files
Books: Jane Eyre, Alice in Wonderland, Lord of The Rings, The Art of Loving, I’m really enjoying Come as You Are atm
Music: the Shins, Eels, Stephin Merritt (the Magnetic Fields), Mark Kozelek (the music, not the man), Lana Del Rey, Gordon Lightfoot, Old Blind Dogs

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I feel like it was a pretty amazing thing that I decided to not be a Christian anymore.

Teach, Learn, Share

So, I think what this box is trying to suggest is that there needs to be some sort of "payment" given/received in a surfing situation. And I guess that's true... but my experience has been that the currency traded between hosts and guests is just Generosity itself! If I wanted to "get" something out of the situation, I feel like that would kind of defeat the whole purpose maybe? Anyway, truly, I'm delighted and honored to share my home with adventurers in need, no strings attached. Just don't be a dick.

What I Can Share with Hosts

And when I'm the one surfing, I'm delighted and honored to share my time, my stories, and my heart with my host. And you'll be sick of hearing, "Can I help with anything?" by the time I leave!
