About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Dada

ABOUT ME

I lived and worked abroad in both China and Russia for a few years until illness forced me back to the UK. However, the wanderlust won't leave me alone so I'm back on the trail.
I'm a visual artist, musician, and a sound artist and also run a small record label with a friend. It lives here: http://www.mustdierecords.co.uk.

I'm hoping short bursts of travel will also trigger off some good art.
I'm not a Buddhist but I do find certain elements make sense and help me make sense of everyday life in general.
My main joys in life are art, music, travel and meeting friendly and interesting people from other cultures.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy? I am convinced that we live in a world of wonder that, the older I get, the more incredible it becomes. You have to take note of the small stuff or you'll miss so much. A cliche yes, but true.
Also, a little compassion goes a long way. As does a small altruistic gesture coupled with a smile. I guess my philosophy is "be nice".

Music, Movies, and Books

Music?
I like reggae, pop, rock, country, punk, 8-bit, Blues, Electronic, Hardcore punk, some Rap, Classical, R&B, Soul, Outsider music (all hail Shooby Taylor), World, Lounge, Disco, Rockabilly, Ska, 60s girl groups, 60's garage, noise etc etc....in fact there is very little music I don't like.

Books?
where to begin?!?! what is life without books? I like history, science, travel, art and classics with the odd contemporary thrown in for good measure..My all time fave authors are Dostoevsky, Kurt Vonnegut, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Turgenev and Conrad....etc etc etc

Film?
Anything Japanese please
Film Directors: Woody Allen, Frank Capra, Akira Kurosawa, Werner Herzog, Ingmar Bergman, Emir Kusturica, Kaneto Shindo, David Lynch, Roy Andersson, Tony Gatlif, Yasujiro Ozu, Aki Kaurismaki... Pretty much any spaghetti western..the dodgier the better, 50's B-movies... Films:...the list is literally endless and no ones gonna read this far anyway ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw a ufo when I was a child.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm convinced everybody can create art. You just have to start the ball rolling and once you do it will improve your life and wellbeing no end.
I remember being at Uni and my teacher saying to the class "why would you try and draw like someone else? No one can draw like you!". Everyone has a unique style.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good music, bad music, tea, points of view, outdated philosophies, curry, fine beer and conversation.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, China, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, South Korea, Spain, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

China, Russian Federation, United Kingdom
