About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Help as many people as I can in the time I have.

ABOUT ME

Most of my friends, the ones that really know me, would say I'm a standup guy. I don't often invest my time/energy into things I don't believe in or believe that are right. They'd say I'm honest, sometimes perhaps too much. I'm characteristically a nice guy, with a sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. Some may say I'm a heart on the sleeve kinda guy. Usually very dependable and trustworthy.

I am a surfer boy at heart (though I don't surf much). I identify with the culture, the scenery, the motivation.

I'm a movie freak, I often quote movies too much, or talk about them, or quote them again. I've seen over 3300 in my lifetime. Yeah, I keep track. Ok, moving on...

PHILOSOPHY

I live to serve, and make an impact on the world in small ways.

I think the best thing you can do for someone is be honest with them and build relationships.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host people frequently as it works with my calendar. I'm very active with the local CS community in St. Louis. I've only surfed in a few cities, I hope to expand my repertoire. I've met some fantastic people through CS and it's been a blast really.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted approximately 40 people since September 2012. From as far as Philippines and Australia and as close as Kansas City.

I have only surfed in Chicago, Nashville, DC and Arlington VA. I hope to do more traveling in the coming year.

Interests

Community service. I really enjoy doing physical work when I can, such as painting, landscaping, building, making a space look better than it is. I try to engage myself in as much service as I can.

I really put a lot of my energy into helping other people. I try to make a goal of helping at least 3 people a day with something. It can be something small or big. I'd say I devote way more of my time and energy into other people than I do myself.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Big fan of Alfred Hitchcock films, Akira Kurosawa, Martin Scorsese, and even modern day Christopher Nolan, Steven Soderbergh, Spike Lee, Woody Allen.

Music: I've been kind of a "hear a song on TV/movie/radio and download it" person lately. My playlists are just a compilation of stuff over time, though my all-time fav groups are Aerosmith, The Pretenders, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Beastie Boys and Pink Floyd. Modern stuff, by and large, just doesn't appeal to me, with exception of Mumford and Sons.

Books: Hmm, I'd have to get back to you on this one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived cancer as a child.

Seeing the sunrise on Mt. Sinai.

Surfed the waves at Victoria Bay, South Africa, with dolphins swimming nearby.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a bit of Russian.
I can tell you all about the history of the film industry (American and European).
I can teach you how to write a decent screenplay.
I can teach you how to play backgammon.
