About Me

Spent the last six months as a primary teacher teaching Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Maths in Khartoum in Sudan, which was an incredible experience...next job will be teaching young women at a University in Somaliland...so I am very interested in East Africa, different cultures, living in different places and finding incredible people..

This is how I also spend my time... https://gabriellazhphotography.com/ ...photographing and writing...check it out if you have a moment ;)

I'm pretty happy and laugh and smile a lot, easy to get on with, and thoughtful and easygoing...I hope all these things!

Really excited to be on this little break, doing some travelling and meeting new people. I hope we get to meet :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I loooove Wole Soyinka, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Derek Walcott and Ngugi wa Thiong'o, The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera, Captain Correlli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernières...

I wrote this a long time ago, but I guess at one stage I really liked Leviathan, Carol, Brooklyn, Samsara, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Big Fish...I enjoy many different types of films

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Volunteered with Utopia 56 at La Linière Refugee Camp; met the most awesome people and learnt a lot.

Seeing incredible animals roam around Namibia and Botswana, riding an almost-deserted train through Zimbabwe, meeting awesome people in Mozambique.

Walked and talked on water outside Catherine I's 'summer'Palace in Pushkin; driven one of the highest roads in the world through the North Indian Himalayas; met the Dalai Lama, travelled with/on the same train as the Pope to Naples.

Hiked up a mountain with my great Uncle and Austrian family at 4am to drink fresh buttermilk.

Stayed up through and filmed a whole annual night-long Sufi celebration in northern Sudan!
