We are the Portugal family. Elijah and I are the grownups of these two little ones, Ona and Sammie. We share a home in Davis and the kids are 50% of the time with us and the other 50% they are with their mommy.
We are happy to provide a bed or a couch for people for one to three nights when possible. We are quite close to the UC Davis campus.

I am Almendra, some people call me Almendrita. I was born at 6 months of gestation. The doctors assured my mother that I was going to die. I will be 42 soon. I am an impostor traveler, meaning I am so much not into famous and tourist places, I rather walk in local places or those secret places that only locals know and I love to meet new friends. Sometimes I feel too old to be backpacking and in CS but then I think that if I don't do it NOW then I actually will be too old later. I am shy at the beginning but when I feel safe/connected I am really funny. I have a sarcastic humor. I choose to believe in humanity and I believe that the absolute truth of all is compassion. I love long hugs.

Soy una viajera impostora, quiero decir que no soy de ir a lugares muy famosos y turísticos ni de ir por solo coleccionar "lugares", prefiero caminatas por lugares locales y amo cuando conozco nuevos amigos. A veces me siento muy vieja para estar viajando de mochila y usando Couchsurfing pero luego pienso que si no lo hago ahora entonces si estaré vieja! Soy muy tímida al principio pero en cuanto me siento en confianza soy muy divertida. Tengo un humor sarcástico. Decido creer en la humanidad y pienso que la verdad absoluta de todos es la compasión. Me gustan los abrazos largos.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We are on CS because we have a lovely house and a kind heart we love to share our fortune with others. I used CS for a year and a half of traveling and my heart desires to "pay back" to others in need.

I am on Couchsurfing because I am traveling and I find that the most amazing thing about traveling is to meet the people of the place. I really enjoy connecting with people and getting my way in the kitchen :))

Estoy en Couchsurfing por que estoy viajando y encuentro que lo más bello de viajar es conocer a la gente del lugar. Me gusta mucho conectar con gente y meterme en el fondo de la cocina :))

I like to learn new things even though sometimes its hard to make the first step. I like to watch movies and to listen to music in languages that I can't understand. I like to see people in the eyes. I like to see the ocean. I love a good coffee.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some of the power of vulnerability info that I have learned. I can try to teach non violence communication. I can share a little about love languages. I can teach you for sure how to make enchiladas.

Puedo enseñarte un poco de lo que he aprendido del poder de la vulnerabilidad. Puedo intentar enseñarte comunicación no violenta. Puedo compartir un poco de los lenguajes de amor. Por seguro te puedo enseñar hacer enchiladas.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When I was a child I learned love by "acts of service" so I am really helpful. I like to help cleaning, take care of animals, organize, I can go grocery shopping, or run errands. I really enjoy to feel that I am of service, it is my way to show love and gratefulness.

Cuando niña aprendí que la forma de dar amor era por medio de "acciones de servicio" entonces soy muy acomedida. Me gusta ayudar a limpiar, a cuidar animales, a organizar, puedo ir a la tienda por cosas, hacer mandados. Me gusta sentirme util, es mi manera de demostrar amor y agradecimiento.
