Hi!

I'm a chilean guy living in Palermo (Italy). I'd describe myself as a quiet person, but I like to go a bit crazy sometimes. I like to hear experiences and funny stories from people. I’m more of a listener, but I also like to share my experiences from time to time, just ask if you are interested :)

HOBBIES
I enjoy many things: Electronic music, rock, pop, series, movies, anime, video games, board games, walking, hiking, partying, traveling, talking and drinking with friends, etc.

SELF EXPRESSION
For a long time, the only thing that I had built by myself was my career. At some point, that made me feel like I was not actually living, just consuming stuff other people did. Though academia allows me to investigate whatever I want, I feel like I need to try other artistic ways to express myself. I started with simple things like piercings, tattoos, dyed hair, etc. At the moment, I'm trying to build a video game with some friends during our free time. I would also like to play an instrument or maybe draw.

ANIMALS
I really like animals. I have three dogs at home in Chile: a Siberian Husky called Ada (by Ada Lovelace), an Akita Inu called Fox, and a Chilean Terrier called Chokita. I miss them so much. I bought these dogs and I love them, but I wouldn’t do it again. Now on I’m only adopting (small) animals.

PEOPLE
I can enjoy sharing some time with any person as long as they are respectful, there is no need to share the same hobbies or anything in particular. I get along specially well with extrovert people because I’m an introvert myself, so it makes communication easier for me. I also get along really well with people in the spectrum, as we can easily relate. I can enjoy small talk, but I generally prefer to talk about more interesting topics. I like to go to techno/electro parties and play board games with friends. I prefer to be in groups of no more than 5/6 people, otherwise I might have some problems to communicate (I try but it is hard for me). When I click with someone, we could hangout regularly, I can always find some time for friends in my schedule 😅

CAREER
I did my undergrad in Chile and I am currently in the last year of my PhD in computer science, specifically studying theoretical aspects of data compression for repetitive text collections (most of the actual applications are in Bioinformatics). I'm grateful that this career path allows me to travel to other countries occasionally, and also allows me to express myself a bit in my research. Even though it is probably not a fun topic to talk about when meeting new people, it is part of who I am (a nerd), and I'm willing to answer questions if someone is curious about it.
