Music, Movies, and Books

Climbing/mountain literature. I like reading all sorts of other things too. Touching the Void. The book was amazing as an 18 year old climber in a hotel room on a boring package holiday in Greece. Lord of the Rings, Paddy Considine films, John Steinbeck. Films I grew up watching over and over: Rocky, The Lost Boys, Point Break... Robert De Niro: Cape Fear, Basketball Diaries, A Bronx Tale. Music: R.E.M discovering music, Leonard Cohen in Lofoten, Counting Crows, French reggae in my Peugeot 405, Jimmy and Radical Face at New Year.... Felice Brothers, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Neil Young...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watching Fred when he was 2 years old, barely walking, going down the roller at the skatepark on his balance BMX. Utterly fearless and confident. He's got pedals now, is a little older, and wiser to the possibility of a grazed knee!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a little English. That's my day job but I guess I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't like it, so I always have a little teaching to spare. I might be able to help you with some French, Spanish or Portuguese as well. They are all a little rusty to differing degrees. I can teach you to climb, surf, play a little guitar, juggle, do handstands, cook some food, how to not burn sausages on a barbecue, build a little furniture... I want to help my son Fred with languages. I spoke to him in French until he was 3 but got out of the habit.
We're both learning to ride a BMX, Fred with the fearless enthusiasm of youth and for the pure joy of racing up and down the ramps, and me for other reasons I'm still working out.
