About Me

Current Mission: Learn things. Meet people. Cultivate happiness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I loved couchsurfing in Koln, Pecs, and Vienna and am looking forward to more. It's such a great way to meet cool people from all over the world. :) My brother lives in SF and recently hosted his first couchsurfer.

Music, Movies, and Books

Right now I'm in the process of reading the 100 books I've always meant to but never got around to doing, and I'm about 70 books in, having read most of them this year. My all-time favorite at the moment is If On a Winter's Night, A Traveler, by Italo Calvino. I particularly love magical realism and historical nonfiction, but I really read everything.

I have eclectic taste in music, but current favorite genres include bluegrass, Celtic, indie-pop, folk, and "world," whatever that is. Favorite artists include Sufjan Stevens, Bat for Lashes, Regina Spektor, Alison Krauss, and Girl Talk. And I basically like most of what's recommended on U.S. National Public Radio.

I also love immersive and interactive theater, walking tours, and street art. I haven't watched a lot of movies lately, but I love award-winners, indie movies, and foreign films (which I guess to some people reading this, are domestic films).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have difficulty lauding anything I've done as amazing.... but I'm glad to have traveled in the past three years to South Africa, South Korea, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina (just a dabble), France (one day), Israel, Greece, India, and Romania. My travel agenda will need to slow down for the next few years to pay off loans, but I don't plan on giving it up and I'm hoping for more adventures over the next few years.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know many signs in American Sign Language. I know a lot about Jewish law. I know a lot about the law school application process in the U.S., and about employment law in the U.S. I also know about 3 sentences in formal Arabic.

I want to know about every culture. I am interested in learning other languages.

I love talking about books, music, visiting new places, and my home metropolis, New York City. :)
