About Me

CURRENT MISSION

We're interested in meeting and hosting polite people and making new friends from anywhere and we're interested in travelling around the world as time and money permit.

ABOUT ME

We've been married 14 years. No children yet. We're both interested in travelling around the world but time and money are limitations. We are interested in the environment, nature, wildlife, being creative. Diana is a graphic designer by education. Steve likes to build furniture from salvaged (recycled) wood and likes to restore diesel trucks and use vegetable oil as an alternative fuel source for the restored trucks. Steve started gardening recently, Diana may or may not pickup the interest in gardening.

PHILOSOPHY

We have a lot of interests. Diana shares my interest in woodworking with recycled wood and she's learning about that from me. I'm learning about automotive work although Diana does not share that interest, with that comes and interest in welding of metal. We both express our creative interests, she paints sometimes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We may be able to host travelers for a couple nights. We are 20 miles North East of Metro Atlanta. We have an extra room and an extra bed and a guest bathroom.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been couch surfing for about 22 years and it's my favorite form of travelling. My wife, Diana, however doesn't fully understand the concept and the benefits or rewards, yet. Certainly if she accompanies me while visiting, she will have a foundation of understanding.

Interests

I (Steve) rode a bicycle from Gainesville, Florida to Seattle, Washington with a friend from college (Univ. of Florida) when we were in college in 1995. We couch surfed in several places where people would welcome us into their home, this was before the internet, so we were couch surfing pioneers.

The recycled wood furniture is something I'm really excited about. The vegetable oil as a fuel is an interesting topic for conversation, either it's unbelievable or generates a WOW, REALLY.

Diana and I will both be certified Divers before too long.

Music, Movies, and Books

The books I read are non-fiction,either nature, wildlife, or how to do something type of books. Music interest is broad and not specific except modern rock and pop from the 1970,80,90's and current. We don't spend much time getting into movies. In 10 years of marriage we've probably been to the movie theater 3 times.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen and done some really interesting and strange things. There isn't one amazing thing, there are dozens.

Traveled around the United States and a few countries, ridden my bicycle across the United States, driven a vehicle on vegetable oil around the United States and spent less then $6.00 US Dollars on Diesel fuel in 2 weeks of driving.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to work with wood including sawing logs into lumber and making various pieces of furniture. I have my own style, it's nothing elegant, but it's nice. I haven't built anything yet that could be considered museum quality or "Fine Furniture" but I could if necessary. I know how to get a Diesel engine to burn vegetable oil and have designed some of my own equipment, it's not difficult, just a knowledge base necessary. Diana is familiar with the Geography and culture of her home country of Colombia and she speaks both Spanish and English, she's fluent now in English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Anything. Stories. I'm told I have some fascinated stories of my adventures.
