About Me

CURRENT MISSION

There are no strangers - only friends you have yet to meet!

ABOUT ME

I am a 52year old German, journalist by trade, living in the Kamptal in Lower Austria - a great spot to be after working and travelling throughout Asia (China for the most part) for almost 7 years.

I am living in a very small town on the banks of the river Kamp. If you are looking for a great spot to relax, enjoy the outdoors along with very good wine and fantastic food, you have found the right destination. The Kamp Valley is close to the Wachau, similarly beautiful but much less touristy, and full of hidden gems both for outdoor activities as well as for wine and dine experiences.

I am working from home and am happy to spend time with my guests - and show them around :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Throughout my time with CS my experiences have been positive. I have learned and seen a lot of things that would have slipped my attention had it not been for hints provided by other Couch Surfers – and that applies as much to hosting and surfing as to just participating in CS meet-ups. The world has entered my home when I first joined the project, and it has come to stay.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Nothing beats watching CSI NY on a long cold winter night ;-)

Books: Mainly mystery, like Henning Mankell, Hakan Nesser, but also documentaries, biographies, and books about intercultural topics and change management related issues.

Music: If it’s music, I love it – and I go to great lengths to enjoy what I like, even if that involves traveling from Shanghai to Nottingham for just one night to be able to see Runrig's 30ieth anniversary concert there. Despite being true and loyal fans of the latter for almost 30 years, my musical interest ranges much wider than this - from Classic to Latin Jazz to Lounge to Hard’n’Heavy, and sometimes even Irish Folk, when I take out my Bodhran for a little jamming with friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most demanding experiences I ever made was a trip around Annapurna in Nepal back in 2006 – but at the same time it was the most rewarding in terms of people encounters and the sheer beauty of nature around me on that trip.

Buying a Harley and travelling around the South-western United States for three months, before making it up to Sturgis during Rally Week will remain one of my most intense memories, too.

When it comes to scary experiences nothing will top that motorcycle trip to Scandinavia. I was camping by the side of a small lake in Northern Sweden and had just finished eating, when a black bear paid an unannounced visit to my temporary home to snatch the remains of my pasta dinner… needless to say that I didn’t want to remind him to leave a reference.
