ABOUT ME

After a career of teaching math at the high school and junior college levels I am trying to get motivated on long over due projects in the house and yard. Have been side tracked a few times - six summers ago spent 6 weeks with a former couch surfer and his daughter camping across the USA. I enjoy playing cribbage, bridge and reading historical novels.

PHILOSOPHY

One has two options when they wake up in the morning - enjoy the day or not, make up your mind quickly. I have always picked the former. It really helped me get through Vietnam. Doing what I can to help others enjoy the day.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a four bedroom house that is getting empty quite rapidly that is on a two acre lot with a creek and woods just 7 minutes from the Dayton Airport. Can put up several people at a time for several days. Free run of the kitchen, pool/ping pong table, washer. Most people seem to drop in at the spur of the moment. Four summers ago twenty-two rock climbers from Texas (ages 14-21) showed up for two nights with a forty minute warning. Couldn't ask for a better group af kids.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None on this site but have basically been couchsurfing for decades among fellow rock climbers, rafters and friends that have moved from Ohio to other parts of the country.

Interests

I enjoy a variety, from outdoor sports to going to the Opera and most in between.

Music, Movies, and Books

All music except Rap, books tend to be historical novels and movies run the gamut - usually rely on friends to recommend one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Joined Hubert Castle's International Circus after high school and toured Western Canada. During my first stint in college I made my own parachute and harness and put over a 100 jumps on it. The military found me in the bomb squad for two years. My second try and successful attempt at higher education got me interested in white water rafting and have introduced many high school students to it. Lately I taken people to the airports (from Dayton) at Indianapolis, Baltimore and Los Angeles.

I make balloon animals for anyone in need of being cheered up and will teach all those who want to learn.
