About Me

CURRENT To than enjoy life and retirement, and grandkids.

ABOUT ME

I have lived in Orillia from the age of 9 months (1956) to pressent. I am married to Sheila, who also grew up in Orillia. I was introduced to Couchsurfing by my daughter, Marlow, who hosted couch surfers when she still lived with us back in 2011. My son Brolin is a member.
When I was a child, road hockey and soft ball were our main activities with soccer in the winter on the snow. Now it is bicycling and volleyball.
I did retire in 2008 from a facility that was the home to developmentally handicapped adults.
My more unusual activity has been building cardboard boats for a local annual event since 1998 and small Christmas floats for Orillia's parade.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to relax more and listen to advice from my family. Advice like "don't sweat it", "no worries", "not a big deal" and "breath" which from time to time my family will catch me holding my breath in stressful situations lol.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to host and meet people, young and old. So far I have hosted people from France, Germany, England, United States (Florida, North Carolina, New York and Colorado, California), India, Taiwan, Austria, Australia, and Canada (Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec)and the Netherlands and Russia and the Ukraine. So many nice people.

My COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have only surfed once back in May of 2011 and it was interesting to being a visitor in a strangers home. I feel it might be unusual for a young host to host someone of my age but that thought relates back to my philosophy about over thinking things and now I am hearing in my head 'no worries", "not a big deal"

Interests

I like bicycling, gardening, going to local events as well as events in surrounding communities. I enjoy learning about local history. I love visiting craft breweries. My Daughter's husband is brewing in a local brewery just outside of town. And I love learning about the history of places that I visit (and boring my wife simultaneously). I enjoy new music and a variety of styles of music.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies -
Books- " The Brain That Changes Itself", "Mistakes Were Made". and Christopher Moore books
Music- I, The Mountain, Munford and Sons, Run with the Kittens, Charlie Weber, my neighbor Zachery Lucky

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hmmm? Not sure what to put here. Nothing crazy or over the top.

Teach, Learn, Share

Since I do not travel outside of southern Ontario much, hosting people allows me to meet people from many different communities and countries and learn about the places they grew up and the places they have traveled.

What I Can Share with Hosts

WHAT I CAN SHARE WITH SURFERS: Local history, a comfortable home, company if needed or allow surfers to relax and explore on their own. And bikes to use to pedal around town.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Cuba, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada
