About Me

Not the most prolific of travellers but have spent lots of time in and around Europe and lived in New Zealand on and off for much of my life

After 4 years of gainful employment, I came back to Scotland to do a Masters degree which started in September 2015. Going to be here in Edinburgh until at least August of this year and hoping to extend my stay by finding a new job here. Fingers crossed.

Really enjoying the amount of things there are to do here in Edinburgh especially the environmental/reuse groups that have sprung up around the uni.

Heading to Iceland in June, most excited.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Started Couchsurfing in March of 2009, met a lot of CS people during my summer trip which was fantastic, was hoping to indulge in a little bit of hosting or guiding people in Lyon and had a few CSers in Auckland in New Zealand.

Hopefully can squeeze in some hosting here in Edinburgh but will see how summer dissertation work treats me.

Interests

Love music, literature and films. Very fond of travelling. Trying to develop my language skills so as to feel less like a lazy anglophone.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is hugely important to me, back in Europe I found myself missing CDs I can't get to because they were boxed up on the other side of the world. I will attempt a list one day but it would be a fairly huge task, we could say indie / alternative kid but that is only really a very vague description and woefully inadequate in some ways.

Books: Again, many different things, was taking Dostoyevsky to Russia but managed to finish it in Finland before I crossed the border.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Saw Patti Smith and Philip Glass play a tribute concert for Alan Ginsberg in a Roman amphitheatre in France that's still in use on a beautiful summer's evening.

Have travelled through Russia which leads to a whole lot of stories.

Teach, Learn, Share

There's a kebab shop on Calle Elvira in Granada that will give you food food poisoning. There are so many that I can't remember which one, suppose that also means the chances of picking it are fairly small.

If you are going to travel from Moscow to Vilnius then you have to go through Belarus, you need a visa and its not worth the effort, best just to go to Riga then to Vilnius.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Cook Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Russian Federation, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom
