Overview
About Me
Hello! My name is Gabriel and I'm an American living in Freiburg, Germany. I come from Irvine, California where I'm used to the temperature being a wonderful 22-25° C all year. For reference I lived about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, about 20 minutes from Disneyland.
Now I live in Freiburg. I moved to Germany to teach English after university. Freiburg is a cool town, lots of students and cool cafes/bars/movie theaters.
I teach English for a living. I learned quickly that I love teaching- it's kind of a performance and really all about people skills.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I travel when I can. While living in Germany this often means going where possible in Europe.
Right now my girlfriend and I are going to Prague from May 23rd-27th. We need a place to stay the 25th and 26th. We are also staying in Munich on the 22nd before hitchhiking to Prague the next day, and for that too we're looking.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am such a huge film fan, if you want to look at my favorites/watchlist/reviews, etc. then check out my Letterboxd and we can absolutely chat:
https://letterboxd.com/Gilgamesh_MC/
My favorite books: A Song of Ice and Fire series, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, A Clockwork Orange, different Flannery O'Connor short stories, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
My favorite music: hip-hop, electronic, and alternative rock. Most of all I miss KCRW, a radio station based out of Santa Monica in Los Angeles that plays weird indie-electronic/tropicalia/trip-hop. Plus always listening to Nujabes, The Smiths, Modest Mouse, or some lo-fi hip-hop radio.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once snuck into a stranger's backyard in the middle of the night to get Thai Holy Basil from their garden. He was a friend of my friend, and we were determined to cook a Thai dish called Ka Prow. The sweet European basil from the store wouldn't cut it- we needed the legit stuff.
Teach, Learn, Share
Well I am an English teacher so...
If you are interested in American politics, Trump, whatever, I can attempt to give you whatever insights I have into the madness.
I'm obviously always up for learning something of a new language or culture.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I love to cook, and I am always happy to. If I have my computer and you have a USB I have assorted movies. Otherwise? My knowledge, experience and sense of fun I guess.
