About Me

There is more to come, but as a starting point, I really enjoy meeting new people, learning different points of views, experiencing other cultures.
My educational background is physical geography, I studied in Munich (Germany) and Bern (Switzerland). I used to work in research for several years, then started my own company, which I am running since more than 20 years. My current work is quite IT related.
I enjoy photography (portraits, architecture, landscape), I like outdoor activities and besides that I have some other special hobbies - just ask :-)
My partner (not married although living together for more than 20 years) is also geographer, she works as editor and author for travel books (did some work for Lonely Planet, Kompass Verlag and others). Quite often, we travel together. But I started with this account, therefore it's a male account. I don't know, if it is possible to have partner profiles here on CS.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Actually, a friend of mine brought up the idea of registering at Couchsurfing to my mind. Me and my partner are planning a trip to Scotland this year (May 2024) and I thought, Couchsurfing might be a good opportunity to get to know some people. It's not our first time in Scotland, been there a couple of times, and we travel by car, sleeping in the car (it's a VW Sharan), therefore we are kind of independent.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love scottish music (some of the earlier bands such as The Old Blind Dogs or Iron Horse). In terms of movies, I like the french movies quite a lot, but also science fiction and fantasy movies. I was totally disappointed from the second Avatar movie. Ah, and I like Star Trek, but I don't know if I would qualify as Nerd :-D

To be honest, I used to read much more than I am doing now. My favorites are fantasy novels and there is quite a range of authors I really like. I'll add a list later ...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Reunion is a lovely island - and so relaxed. We stopped with our car asking someone for directions, not realising that we were blocking the whole road. And after a few minutes we realised that there were several cars waiting for us to finish our conversation - no horns, just patient waiting. That was so amazing.
And we remember the lovely couple in a camper van who brought us a can of boiling water after witnessing our attemts with our small gas stove :-)
There are so many promises in meeting new people. And if you don't expect anything, you'll get the best of them.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love photography and I really like to share my enthusiasm. Taking pictures, trying to catch the special moment, that is great.

What I Can Share with Hosts

This is a difficult question. I (or we) are curious about other cultures, therefore we will certainly offer a listening ear, Sharing experiences is something, I really enjoy. I'll think a little more about this topic...
