About Me

First of all, I'm Taiwanese, not Chinese. I do not grow and live in any province of China. Please respect that. CS doesn’t respond to my complaint.

Huei-Tsung is hard to pronounce for some people, and Huei is not my middle name 😂 Huei-Tsung is my given name, or you can just call me Panda.

Outliner in Taiwanese mainstream culture.

1 year working in Taroko national park, 8.5 years working in indie bookstore. Learn to be a full time trader now. Therefore, I’m self-working in day time at home, and super busy in weekdays.

Coffee in the morning. Beer at night. Love to meet new friends, to discuss various subjects, cultural, political, economical, sociological subjects, and to learn from different perspectives and cultures.

Believe the meaning of travel is to meet people.

◪ Room Conditions
A couch or mattress on fake Japanese style wooden platform, both in public space. The couch is super comfy I sleep on it sometime. The platform is rather spacious. A shared toilet in my flat. A flatmate with cat which will only stay in the room.

◪ To Surfers
I'm super busy working in weekdays, and not always available for CS, depends on my energy status. Even if you surf at mine, it's very possible that we'll only hang out in my free time, therefore, if you plan to stay in, you shall be aware of possibilities of exploring city on your own. Normally, I have more free time on weekend, but I personally don’t see any tourism value of this city, depends on your purpose of traveling, otherwise, I’ll recommend you to spend more time at other cities or towns honestly.

I would truly love to share my life and engage in more with surfers, as we can discuss this matter anytime while you're surfing at mine. However, I won't guarantee any touring around and/or spending time together all day, but I'm open to options. And I'm most likely unavailable in weekdays as I mentioned previously.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing is an ideal way to meet new friends from other cultures, wherever I go or stay.

Music, Movies, and Books

◩ Music
Postpunk, postrock, and shoegazing are my favorite, but I enjoy all genres of rock n roll. Thousands of bands I love, mostly 60s-90s. Placebo, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Nirvana, Cat Power, Arcade Fire, Slowdive, The Clash, Blur, Joy Division, etc. Taiwanese bands are not listed, I'm just lazy.

So according to Spotify, top 5 of my favorite genres are now: compositional ambient, trip hop, instrumental post rock, art pop, indie soul. Good to learn myself by machine 🤪

◩ Film
A24 !
Past Lives. Close. C'mon C'mon. The Worst Person In the World. Druk. In the Mood for Love. Everything Everywhere All At Once. Swiss Army Man. Lovers on the Bridge. Yi Yi. Birdman. Manchester at the sea. Mad World(HK). We Are X (JP). Baby Driver. Pride and Glory. Hundreds to go. I'm lazy.

◩ TV series
Fleabag. Normal People. Hannibal. Sex Education. Atypical. Precinct 99. Pride and Prejudice(BBC version). Bojack Horseman. Orange Is New Black. Adventure Time. Peaky Blinders. Friends.

◩ Books
Mostly fiction, history, sociology, anthropology, and psychology. Recent Inspiration are as below:

。What Life Should Mean to You - Alfred Adler
Relationship with anyone involving in your life matters, including family, friends, lovers, colleagues. Realizing meaning of connection to people and how you cope with them, is a key factor of life.

。The Body Keep the Scores - Bessel van der Kolk
Discussing t how trauma experience rooted not only in mind, but also brain, based on author's research and counseling experience. A book to learn the cause of trauma, to learn different methods of healing, eventually and hopefully, leading to the broad road of new life away from PTSD.

。The Buried Giant - Kazuo Ishiguro

。Shutterbabe - Deborah Copaken Kogan
An autobiography of a female journalist who strive and discover pieces of stories at the edge of war and threat.

。Seventeen Contradictions and the End of Capitalism - David Harvey
Discussing the basic idea of capitalism as well as contradiction and crisis caused by capital. Will get a better image about the future of our world since capitalism is definitely haunted around us til the end of world.

。One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel García Márquez

。Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

◪ 2016 Solo cycling around Taiwan
Cycling Taiwan in circular route on 1600 km ride in 14 days. During that time, I camped along the way at places like museums, temples, and schools. It’s also my recommendation to explore Taiwan, too, since traveling in Taiwan is super safe, according to feedbacks from my previous surfers.

◪ 2019 Conducting field research in Israel
One month solo field research in Israel on indie bookstore culture. I’d been to Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and some other small cities around them. Interviewed indie bookstore owners and staffs.

◪ 2023 Acting in “Bros” by Castellucci in Taichung National Theater
Being a stage actor in Taichung National Theater for the play by famous Italian director, Romeo Castellucci, for 3 days performance, with 500 audiences each day.
