About Me

Greetings to Hosts and Surfers,

I am a PhD student in Evolutionary biology at OIST. Before moving to Japan, I've been working as a research assistant at my alma mater and in spare time sung with a local big band in Latvia.

Currently, I can't host anyone since I'm living in a shared flat(

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To me, Couchsurfing is a more sustainable way of travelling then staying at a hotel but, most importantly, it’s a great way to meet new people and save some money (to bring souvenirs for my hosts) 😃
It's about people, not places.

Music, Movies, and Books

At the university, discovered jazz and fell in love with it. Now, music is my hobby and I’m seriously consider giving it a go.

Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan are my computer bests but I prefer watching movies that are less well known but damn good, e.g. Captain Fantastic, or Woody Allen’s stuff (though good personal love life, ehh, controversial).

And, books... Such an amazing invention! I'm fond of Russian literature - a huge fan of Tolstoy and Chekov.
Books, also, set me on a journey of learning about myself. “Zen Buddhism & Psychoanalysis” by E. Fromm got me started.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Shared a music stage with crazy jazz musicians on congas at a uni festival. It was a wild and fun night!

Teach, Learn, Share

- As a self-taught musician, I can show you the bits and bobs ofmusical theory or how to play piano or guitar. Or, just jam.

- Instead of small talk, I choose "big talk" 😊
I believe that we all have stories to tell that help others to learn something about themselves.

- Okinawa can feel isolated and it is, but it hides pre-Internet beauties around. You just have to trust it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- If you have any instruments at home, we can jam 🎸
- Cooking is a joy, especially if done together.
- Great conversations are happening on the feet outdoors 🌳 or in a bar with a goood a beer 🍻
