About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live for the benefit of all beings, to be of service to others, to experience joy, to constantly improve my understanding of myself and my world, and to manifest GRATITUDE.

ABOUT ME

"I've seen it all, boys. I've been all over. Been everywhere in the whole wide world."--Tom Waits

Everywhere includes Peace Corps, a monastery, Illinois, Georgia, Seattle, Asheville, Tucson, San Francsico-- all places I've lived for a while. Now I'm settled into Knoxville.

PHILOSOPHY

I think that I misuse property when I hoard it for myself. This is what the anarchists mean by "property is theft." If I don't have a use for something, I believe I have a duty to share it. Also, the only things I will end up with when I die are those things which I have given away. I'm hoping that you will use my apartment as you see fit because really, it's a bit too big for me to use all by myself. If there's something you need, ask, and I may give it to you, depending on my needs, though I must note that I have tried to pare down my possessions to what I actually have plans on using. Thank you for helping me fulfill important social and religious obligations.

I offer guests a place to stay in order to cultivate generosity and gratitude. I also like having a steady stream of interesting stories and people in my house. I hope people are attracted here because I host lots of travelers and have some interesting stories to tell. My living situation is plain, and even spartan. You're probably a match for my house if you would own less and live more.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host people from far away, people who are traveling for a while, bicultural people, and those visiting town as part of a creative project.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I've traveled, I've always been pleasantly surprised by the hospitality that has been extended to me. I've tried to do my part. I pick up hitch-hikers if they don't look too bad. I offer dancers and activists places to stay.

Interests

Contra dancing, sociology, books, leftist politics, feminism, bicycling, intentional community, buddhism, board games, law, new ways of living in favor of a better world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the raising of the Mexican flag over the Zocolo really made me cry. I don't know why.

Haitian sugar cane cutters and their cockfighting impressed me.

I biked from one coast of the US to the other in 2019, and I backpacked the first 900 or so miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2021.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach knitting, how to use a bicycle in US traffic, some other stuff? Hmm.
