About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To hone my abilities to do healing work, learn how to play the bass, reignite my art practice, and deepen my capacity to be present.
ABOUT ME
Caring, creative, perceptive & kind. I have an avid sense of curiosity, aesthetic sensititivity, and a love of art & music.
I studied literature and philosophy as an undergrad and along the way became interested in visual art. Worked in non-profits while taking art classes at night. Detour - curve ball? - in the form of an intense training program at a hospital in San Francisco. Working with patients, some of whom were dying, was an amazing experience and it had a huge influence on my life. I realized I didn't want to wake up at 50 and regret that I hadn't tried, so I applied to art school and moved to the east coast to attend the only publicly funded art school in the whole country. I completed a BFA and moved back to the west coast to study counseling psychology.
PHILOSOPHY
My personal philosophy stems from several influences. Here are a few:
Kindness matters.
Strive to keep an open heart.
The original version of the Golden Rule:
Do not do to others what you don't want done to you.
A rabbi who died in the Warsaw Ghetto who taught that one of the greatest things a person can do is to do a favor for someone else.
From a piece of writing called Desiderata.. the whole thing is worth reading, here's an excerpt:
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story . . .
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Hoping to participate by meeting people in the spirit of E.M. Forster who wrote, "Only connect!"
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My couch surfing experiences have been great! Surfed couches on the east coast and also on my drive across the country. I've been impressed by everyone I've met, and so very grateful for this site. It inspires me and gives me hope.
Interests
Music, art, dancing, synchronicity, yoga, redwood trees, meditation, walking, hiking, snorkeling, camping; curious about intentional communities, scholar's rocks, and I want to learn how to play the bass.

Music, Movies, and Books
My taste in music is eclectic, so here's a snapshot: from Tom Waits to Eva Cassidy, Early Music to contemporary African, Joni Mitchell to Jerry Garcia, Thelonius Monk to Arvo Part, Parliament Funkadelic to J.S. Bach.
Favorite films: Children of Heaven, The Last Emperor, Diva, Casablanca.
Favorite books include The Samurai's Garden, My Grandfather's Blessings, the Earthsea Trilogy, The Shipping News, Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (I cringe at the title, but the writing is extraordinary), The Bean Trees, and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Several things come to mind: double rainbows, redwood trees, a lunar eclipse, swimming with dolphins, seeing the andromeda galaxy through a very powerful telescope...
