About Me

Hong Kong-born and Vancouver-raised. I lived in Boston on and off, from 2010-15, then spent 2015-17 travelling through Africa, the Silk Road, and beyond. I've spent 10 years away from Vancouver, but now I'm back, rediscovering my hometown, the surrounding areas, and Canada in general!

I may no longer be able to host couchsurfers, but I can meet up, whether you're a traveller or a local.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've surfed and hosted a few times, though I'm not so able to do either as frequently anymore. Down to grab a coffee or drink though!

Interests

Enjoying wherever I'm living -- day trips, hikes, beach time, sailing (I'm pretty terrible at it), skiing, farm trips, festivals, bike rides, and all that. Planning for travel's another, and I enjoy the research that goes into a trip, as well as trying to pick up the language of wherever I'm going.

Otherwise, amateur photography, trying food from other countries, day hikes and long urban walks, digging through music blogs, language learning. Oh, and hats. I like hats. :)

I also write a blog while travelling: https://nolegroom.ca/

Music, Movies, and Books

More of a TV guy than film, but these days it's almost all Taskmaster. Foreign language media is okay too -- primarily French, Hindi (Bollywood), Cantonese, or Spanish.

Music wise, I'm a fan of indie rock/pop and soul, and I love a good concert as often as possible. I'm pretty open in general, love finding new stuff to listen to, and don't mind the language either! Most of my catalogue is in English, Spanish, or French.

My reading selection tends to be quite random -- historical fiction, actual history, foreign culture, international relations, philosophy... and probably anything from David Sedaris. These days it's whatever foreign language stuff I challenge myself to read through.

On the other hand, I do read a whole lot of news, and am fascinated by politics around the world and in Canada, as well as issues relating to cultural identity.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

More than my fair share of independent travel!

Teach, Learn, Share
